Is this really hunting?

Don't think it could have been that hard to find the Giraffe,..................

Hey, they are sneaky devils. They can hide. :)

Is that now a driven shoot? o_O

I didn't realize that the kill zone for a giraffe was so small  that 1" would make the difference, am thinking it would be more like it was missed by 6" or more or just poor shot placement altogether.
Hitting shoulder and no penetration could be the difference of 1" but hitting the target "A Giraffe's heart which weighs up to 10 kg (22 lb) and measures about 60 cm (2 ft) long" shouldn't be that difficult if the hunter knew and followed his limitations

Must have been going for the high neck shot!

If that is the case then time for me to step on the soap box, highly unethical shot with archery, does not have the kinetic energy required like a gun does. And before anyone jumps up about how it can make the kill shot, so could a well placed .22 round
So i refer back to poor shot placement and the limitations of himself and his equipment

My fault. Forgot the archery bit. Quite a spectacular shot with a .416 though.

Ethics and morals are somewhat hard to define. We all have a feeling of where a line should be drawn most of the time. So as we on the forum try to define such things we take the discussion to a very negative place. How about just saying that we don't like the way that hunt was conducted and leave it at that.
You see its kinda like the whole bow hunting versus gun hunting thing. You can take it as far as you want and the rhetoric gets more and more heated. I can end that one right quick: unless you tracked it down naked and with a spear it was not a fair hunt! We all look for an advantage in everything we do thats for sure.
Ignore this anti hunters bait!
Kind Regards,
Philip

Like every other normal Sunday morning I wake up,start the coffee up and take the GSP puppy outside, while she does what puppies do I have my coffee a smoke and read through a few posts here on AH and on FB.

This morning while reading a post on FB I just about swallowed my smoke and choked on my coffee. I will simply give you the highlights of the post.

Fellows get up in the morning to hunt Giraffe. Start up the airplane and go look for said Giraffe, find said Giraffe and radio truck to pick them up at the landing strip. Jump in the truck and race to the place Giraffe was spotted, put a arrow in the Giraffe "one inch off target" wait 40 minutes, add one more arrow to the Giraffe " one inch left off target" chase Giraffe a mile or two and shoot Giraffe with a 270. Take photos off to a hide to shoot Zebra.

Am I the only one who finds this a bit disturbing? Is this what hunting is all about? No wonder I am not fully booked, don't have a desire to hunt this way for any money.
Not my idea either.

We've been spot and stalk hunting every day since the morning after stepping off the plane in Johannesburg.

That's a good six hours on the feet.. that's hunting to me.
