Not sure how many of you guys knew Irvin, but for those of you who did, he passed away last night at his home surrounded by his family. The news has been slow getting out and his wife has asked for some private time. He was one of the top living hunters in the world, an avid outdoors-man, conservationist and a dear friend. We shared many campfires and I had the pleasure of visiting his trophy room more times than I deserved. He will definitely be missed by all those that knew him.

Met him several times, I cannot call him a friend but I can say that he was a very congenial and a generous man with a tremendous life experience of hunting. My sincere condolences to his wife, family and loved ones, I know that there are many. He was well liked and for good reason.

Brickburn, if you have a copy of Great Hunters and Their Trophy Rooms Vol. 1, his trophy room is on the cover. His trophy room was truly spectacular, 8,000 square feet of dreams.

As an aside the above picture is Irvin, Greg Rodriguez, Tuffy the Jack Russel and an elk. Tuffy is the only one still around.

Condolences to his wife, family and friends.

wow what a trophy room I can hope one day mine is half as good

Condolences to you and to those that knew and loved him.

Spectacular trophy room. Thanks for finding it Brickburn.

Definitely a legend in the world of hunting, I remember seeing photo's of him receiving his Weatherby award as a child. We can only dream of hunting half as much as he did. Condolences to the family.

He received his Weatherby quite a while before we became friends, but he and Mike Simpson graciously had me to sit at their table every year. I think they feel sorry for the poor kid, LOL

Condolences and prayers for the family.

Irvin will be missed by many. He was a quiet, humble, yet larger than life kind of man. He was great member/supporter of our Houston Safari Club and a friend to all that got to know him. I have been fortunate to be able to explore Irvin's unbelievable trophy room(s). Pictures and videos do not do it justice. RIP Irvin. You lead an amazing life!

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
