Hunting in the Kalahari – a true test of skill and endurance
Hunting in the Kalahari is a pursuit of endurance and patience, where every track in the red sand tells a story and every trophy is truly earned.
Hunting in the Kalahari is unlike any other experience in Africa. Here, the land itself shapes the game, creating animals that are as tough, cunning, and resilient as the desert sands they roam.
On our ranch in the Kalahari, you’ll find a variety of over 30 species to hunt, from the majestic Gemsbok, Eland, Zebra, and Wildebeest, to the iconic Sable, Kudu, Impala, Buffalo, and even Giraffe. For those with a keen eye and a sense of adventure, we are also home to two of the elusive ‘tiny ten’, proving that every creature here has its own story and challenge.
What makes hunting in the Kalahari truly special is the terrain and vegetation. These animals were born into an unforgiving environment where survival is an everyday struggle. Every bull, ram, or antelope has learned the art of endurance. Every herd has mastered caution. Out here, the game is either strong - or it does not survive. It is as simple as that.
Tracking them across the red dunes, thornveld, and scattered pans is not just a hunt, it’s a journey into the heart of the wild. The open horizon, endless skies, and raw beauty of the Kalahari test every skill a hunter possesses. The reward is not only a trophy, but the experience of standing in a land where the wild rules, and only the patient and persistent succeed.
Set foot into the Kalahari, and you’ll understand why hunters return again and again, for the thrill, the challenge, and the chance to encounter Africa at its most primal.
Our ranch lies in the heart of the Kalahari, just short of 10,000 acres of pristine wilderness to explore and hunt.
The Kalahari in South Africa has a unique and unforgettable character. Unlike the dense bushveld of Limpopo or the rolling savannas of the Lowveld, the Kalahari feels vast, open, and untamed.
Here, solitude is part of the experience. Perhaps the most striking feature is its silence and space. Standing on the red sands beneath an endless sky, you can’t help but feel both humbled and inspired by the timelessness of the land.
The Kalahari is famous for its deep red dunes, stretching toward the horizon with few mountains or tall trees to break the view. Vegetation is a blend of thornveld and grassland, with hardy camel thorn trees (Vachellia erioloba) providing much-needed shade. In summer, their pods sustain much of the wildlife.
Though often called a semi-desert, the Kalahari is surprisingly full of life. After the rains, grasses flourish, flowers bloom, and game disperses across the landscape. In the drier months, animals gather at pans and waterholes, where encounters are inevitable.
But this wilderness can be unforgiving. Summer days can easily climb above 110°F, while winter nights often fall below freezing. To hunt the Kalahari is to embrace its extremes - tough, wild, and unforgettable.
