I'm wondering how much cash to carry on say a 10-14 day hunt for tips and minimal gift purchases in Tanzania? Looking for a lump sum number, not an itemized number for this person per day, that person per hunt...

No side shopping trips, tours, just hunting...

Thank you

PS - I realize this is a difficult, overgeneralized question, but even a starting point would help...

Check out the safari planning section for info and advice on tips. Also ask your outfitter about tips for staff and if they have a system for handling that.

Yes definitely ask about tips as have have been suprised by how low some tip suggestions were and also how high some were and how many people were to be tipped.

You honestly have to do a little research on this one. We asked our PH before we went over how many staff to be tipped and what was expected, so we had a really good idea how much we needed for tips. When the time came to settle the account we went over it again and no surprises. Took a little extra so not to be caught short.

I recently returned from 18 days, mixed plains game and dangerous game between two outfitters. I had 10% of the value of my hunt in US dollars for tips that I split based on the tipping guide found on this forum. I over tipped my housekeeper, chef, skinners and trackers by double. PH on dangerous game earned 250 US per day tip. I was told by my PHs that tips are awesome but not expected. I discussed tipping with each PH when it came to trackers, skinners and staff on my first day with them.

I need to know if this is legit. Photo with today's paper would do it.
