“Accidentally” won a Heym 22A combination gun (7x57r/16 gauge) last night on Gun Broker for cheap. Anyone have experience with the gun or cartridge? I’m assuming it performs no different than 7x57 Mauser, although the factory 173 grains are a little heavier than the 139s I’ve used in the past.

Also, does anyone know the actual value of these in pristine condition? I’m not finding many on the market.

I own a Heym 88b double rifle in .470 NE.

I absolutely love it.

Anything Heym makes is top tier.

If you got it cheap, then you have a fine gun at at a bargain price.

If you don't want to keep it, then post it here.

I chased a Marlin 1894 in .44 magnum, until it got ridicules, last night, then I "threw in the towel."

I want a Marlin 1894 "Cowboy," but I won't pay $1,300 for a $700 rifle.

I've got a Heym drilling in 7x57R/16 and it's an absolute favorite. Mine is a dural (aluminum) frame and very lightweight, but the combination guns tend to be very light even with steel frames. My combo gun is a Krieghoff 7x65R/16 and it's a strong, steel gun but still trim.

I shot a deer a couple of years ago with the 173 grain bullet burning through some S&B factory ammo, trying to make empties for my 140 grain reloads. Price and performance were so good, I'll just stick to hunting with them and spend my reloading time on other rounds.

I am familiar with combination guns, but have no experience with this kind of rifles from Heym. I am just answering to your question before people tells you too much about Heym double rifles or drillings, rifles that have nothing to do with a combination gun, of German a so-called Bockbüchsflinte. These types of rifles with scope are often used in our countries for hunting from a high seat, a Hochsitz, to shoot deers and wild boars. The cartridge 7x57R is the first choice for such rifles. Compared to the cartridge 7x57, the 7x57R is slightly less powerful, but this is not particularly relevant for relatively shorter shooting distances.

The 57r is a bit weaker than the rimless version, but will work still fine.

Used the round a lot and intend to dobso in the future.
A very common Cartridge here in Germany.

Although nowadays many Hunters think it is on the wesker side of medium bore Cartriges.

The cocking pf the 22a is a bit unusual, will be interesting to see if you like it.

Have a CZ 584 in 12/7x57r with a collection of chamber adapters its a do all gun when SHTF
That’s why I thought it would be good. A property I am leasing for deer hunting has an abundant quail population, something that is increasingly rare in the southern United States. Additionally, there are feral hogs and small game opportunities. I figured this gun would be a fine piece to walk creek bottoms with.

I have a Heym BBF26 which I believe is the sucessor model to the 22-series. It is the hunting rifle I use the most since I use it for hunting Black Grouse and Capercaille over my finnish spitz, which also is my favorite hunting at home. Mine is however in calibres .22 Hornet and 20/76 since I ordered it for this particular form of hunting.

Anyway it is a beautiful little combination gun and Heym seems to have great quality in their firearms.

Not sure your price range. Have a 375 H&H with a muzzle brake. Nice rifle only fired a few times. Also a Mossberg 375 Ruger its been used and shows a few hunts on it.
