Good morning. I would like your help identifying the manufacturer of a rifle I'm being offered for purchase. Here are some photos:

On the barrel, it says: ""J.G.RAMSAY "LA VENEZIANA" - J.R.MALGOR - A.IMPERIALE - P.C.RAGALLI - BUENOS AIRES". La Veneziana was a very important gun shop in Argentina. It worked with manufacturers such as Holland & Holland and Perdey. I'm almost certain the action is a 1909 Mauser, but I don't know who sported it. Who knows who could have made it?

Best wishes

I think you're right about the 1909

Can't help with the maker, but I like the looks of the gun

Does it come with a scope in those mounts? Looks like a single claw with a lever release, which would be very, very hard to replace I'd imagine. So if you're looking to scope it, factor in the cost of something like a swing mount.

That is a neat rifle - the engraving on the barrel and rib look top notch - no slouch work at all.

Have you taken it out of the stock? I've seen marks stamped insde before.

That's a very Westley Richards looking front sight.

The scope mount looks like an H&H - like this one:

Just curious what length is the barrel?

Looks like a high quality rifle made for La Veneziana. Gunmakers building rifles for retail sale by well established gun dealers is a well established European tradition that may well have transitioned to Argentina after WWII with the influx of German hunters who fled pot-war occupied Germany.

Thanks! Tomorrow I'll weigh it and tell you, but it's quite light.

Unfortunately, I don't have the mounts or the sight. It'll be difficult to get them. Are those types of mounts only made by Holland & Holland?

I take out the stock, but dont have any mark stamped

westley type folding sight which ive seen on Dumoulin rifles once in a while , looks like it could have been built in Spain ,,1909 action with bottom metal

Army Navy used to do the same thing.

I too think it has H&H scope mounts. You may be able to get them to fit rings to it but $$$$$ Very nice rifle by the way.

Those are indeed H&H bases. The actual rings hopefully can be located. H&H made them as did Ron Wharton, now sadly deceased. New ones will be eyewateringly expensive to have made.
