Hi dear hunting friends,

I am new to this website but I already made use of the fantastic forum and with my great surprise, the community is amazing.

I therefore wanted to briefly introduce myself and say hello.

I am currently living in Vienna, as an expat where I rent a small 150 ha in low Austria to hunt mostly deers, boars and small game.

I had the occasion to go on a few hunts within Austria and CZ but so far the best experience was the Chamois hunt in the Austrian mountains.

Hereby a few pictures of my recent hunts.

Looking forward to engage in the community.

Don´t hesitate to PM me if you are in Vienna.

Cheers,

Oli

Welcome to AH The Gamshunter!

:S Welcome:

Welcome to AH.

Heartiest welcome ! Australia is a magnificent country with some of the most amazing food (apple strudel, veal schnitzel) and sporting firearms makers (Peter Hofer, Peter Hambrusch, Franz Sodia) in the entire world. I have been there six times with the family so far.

Welcome, would love to hunt Austria some time

Welcome, I would love to hunt the Gams in Austria. Any suggestions where? Preferably, a lift served area.

Welcome! Certainly glad to have you here with the rest of us!

Waidmannsheil!

Interesting old buck!

I saw a few gams in Slovenia this past weekend, but sadly it was not gamszeit.

I am hunting Gams in Tyrol and two different places in Slovenia this year. Hopefully I will connect. I am so far 2 hunts zero gams.

Waidmannsdanke!

Thank you. This particular one was a 11 year old buck with quite rare trophies (end broken from fighting or falling).

This is the most beautiful hunt, I can recommend. Especially, if you like sportive hunt. The physical fitness required is pretty high (almost passed out after the 1st climb, as had to keep up with a PH who climbs the mountains every day in record speed). I am happy that i went during the rut in winter, as otherwise could not have spotted such a great old buck.

Slovenia is next on my list for next summer! Let us know who it goes in Tyrol and Slovenia.

Cheers,

Thank you for your wishes. Very kind of you. Indeed, Vienna and the rest of Austria is amazing. I came here a few years ago and bought most of my hunting guns here, as the firearms makers make one of the best hunting guns I ever saw. The chamois in the picture was shot with an old Steyr Alt, custom made, in caliber 7x64 which turned to be a dream gun. Dont hesitate to let me know if around Vienna for a hunt.

I am not fit, but I climbed the mountain. My biggest recommendation is not to hunt on the weekend. This was the biggest problem for both gams hunts I went on, and it is actually a problem for all hunts in the Alps with weekend walkers.

I had multiple stalks blown on both hunts by hikers.

Awww, the usual "weekend bugs"... That must have been quite upsetting, especially if a few encounters. Chamois are indeed very "shy" and don´t like too much human activites around them. In the Alps, between the mountain bikers with stereo in the summer and the ones on ski in the winter, which scare them (so that they burn their precious energy, which could have helped them to survive up to the summer...), it is quite a challenge.

I hope your next chamois hunt will go more smoothly. Was it in Slovenia or in Tyrol?

Good day! Welcome to AH!
