Have you ever bid on a rifle and then wonder “Why did I do that?”

Ok. I own another 1917 Enfield. I do have a mad thing for these Enfields. It needs rebluing. And a new barrel, but chambered in what? 264 WinMag? 6.5x68? 8x68S? 404 Jeffery?

I did it on a engraved edition of a Ruger #1.

After I won it I looked at the suggest retail price and I paid just what it would of retailed for. But about a thousand dollars more than I should of really paid..

I've bought a couple just because I thought there was no way they would go that low and was surprised that they did. Wasn't planning on buying them but I'll always take a good deal!
Did that on a truck once. I was looking at new ones and got to dickering back and forth with the salesman, no intention whatsoever to buy. He named a good price and I came back with what I thought was rediculously lowball and damned if he didn't take it. Well, ya makes yer talk and ya abide by it. Now I was stuck with two trucks. I advertised the old one and sold it. Good lesson in keeping your trap shut.

Lee in Texas, is the photo of your existing or "new" M-17? Contacting Dennis Olson about making a 404 Jeffrey out of it sounds like a hell of a good idea to me.

Yeah that is how I just ended up with a 2nd 308 I dont need. I was looking for an ultralight Savage 260 rem and this guy had a 308. After a month he knocked the price down 50 bucks and I now own it. Its a little heavy than factory stated but still 3/4 pound less than my 308 BLR.

I know a guy that has a problem with this, but in his defense who doesn’t need multiple everything

Well, I have only ever bid on auction on one rifle in my life, with success as you know.
But I must admit it was a bit strange to contemplate the expenditure of such a sum without physically inspecting myself the rifle and having been brought to consider this beauty by AH forum member @rookhawk, who I had never met in real life!
I did my due diligence of course, looking at current prices and estimates for recreating such a rifle new, as well as the budget I could make available. And for the inspection part I used an intermediate to inspect in my stead.

No regrets so far though, as it was a well contemplated decision from my side. I allowed my rational side, without too much looking at the emotional final price tag, which I use daily in my work to make the decision for me. It worked out :)

Tell me it wasn’t the FN Mauser in .358 Norma Magnum. The rifle that would be a perfect companion to my Remington Model 30 Express in .358 Norma Magnum. I liked that rifle, but hesitated too long.

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
