Looking for any and all recipes, plains game and big boy loads. Thanks. "D"

I like IMR4064, about 72 grs behind a 400gr Barnes TripleShock for about 2230fps in my 24 inch barrel CZ. Thats good for over 4400 pounds of energy. Not earth shattering but certainly adequate for anything that walks. Other loads do about the same, using both Varget and R15 in the same charge range or a bit more as they are slower. One factory load I had, RWS I think ran over the clock at about 2350, pretty potent stuff. I seemed to get the best velocity with the Barnes bullets over the others, and it shoots better in my rifle than the others.

84gn H4350 behind the 400gn Woodleigh Weldcore and the RWS Solid gets just over 2300fps and a usable same point of impact. Shooter friendly.

I have a box loaded with IMR 4350 just waiting to get shot.

From 24" Bbl on winchester 70 action
450 Woodleigh soft CCI 200 primer with 83.0 gr of H4350 mv =2325
400 gr Barnes TSX and 400 solids loaded with Federal 215 primer And 81.0gr of Vith 550 mv =2300
100 yd zero drops 8" at 200 yds
took eland at 200 and Buffalo at twenty yards with barnes tsx

That first load is impressive at about 5400 ft/lbs of energy! Well into .416 Rigby territory and then some. The Barnes load is good for 4700 lbs of energy. The .404 does have the stuff!

what is the best speed (fps) for the 404 J with 400g ?

I was thinking around 2250 ?

no offence intended but I believe the first load here is a typo. 83gr of H4350 shouldn't get the 450gr Woodleigh to 2325 fps. (perhaps he meant 400gr Woodleigh)

on a different note: im extremely jealous of all you 404 Jeffery owners... I want one too!

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
