Guide Gun range report

My Ruger Guide Gun got to see some more action this morning in West Virginia. 1 shot thru the heart at about 150yards and that was that. To say the least this gun and I have really bonded.

What a great picture!

You put it on him!

Sweeeet!

What was your load?

I used 165 gr. Speer BTSP with 58 gr. of IMR 4350, CCI #250 primers and PPU brass. Seating depth is something you have to figure out for your gun. Out of a 20" barrel I get 2700 FPS.

Well after only 10 months of waiting my tax stamp finally arrived and I picked up my suppressor. Now all I have to do is wait for my gunsmith to make the adapter that I need to put it on my guide gun and I'm all set. As soon as I get it all put together I'll let you guys know how it works.

Would like to see pictures

<just wish ammo wasn't so stinkin hard to find around where i'm at.>

@gizmo check out www.midwayusa.com they have it available.

I had a little spare time this morning so I screwed the suppressor on my guide gun and headed to the range. With the suppressor on the point of impact went a bit high and to the right. I took a picture of the target I shot at 200 yards, the group to the right is the first three shots and the 2 over center were after I adjusted the scope to bring it back to center. I used the 165 gr. Speer BTSP loads that I put together last fall and I think that I will stick with them for now, at least for as long as I'm not hunting anything bigger then deer and antelope.

Very nice JD!

Ruger Guide Gun family is growing all the time!

I was at the range the other day shooting my Ruger varmint rifle in 25-06 at 200 yards. My son wants to use it for antelope in a few weeks in Wyoming, so I loaded up some 115 gr. Berger VLD hunting bullets and went to work. I was doing pretty well at 200 yd. and since it was a pretty calm day with just a little breeze blowing from left to right, barely moving the leaves on the trees, I decided to move the target out to 300 yd. I wasn't so much worried about shooting a group, I was more curious to find out how much drop I was going to have. I knew what the ballistic calculators said, but I wanted to see it for myself. At this point your probably wondering why I posted this here on the guide gun range report thread. Well I had my guide gun with me as well, so I decided to find out what my bullet drop was on it too. I'm still shooting those Speer 165 gr. BTSP that I started out with and IMR4350 powder, but I cut back to 57 gr. of powder. I shot 3 shots from each gun and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of bullet drop and with the groups. The photo shows the target, the top group is the 25-06 the bottom group the 30-06, both measure 1 3/8" center to center, I can live with that at 300 yd. It looks like the 25 cal. Bergers buck the wind a little better then the 30 cal. Speers, I guess I knew that but it's always nice to see it on paper. Next up will be the old skin and bone test, on or about the 1st. of October with any luck. Oh and yes I had my suppressor on the 30-06, that makes her a real joy to shoot.

Nice, I just bought one and I hope it shoots as good as yours does

I hope so too. Do you hand load? If you do you should be able to get some good accuracy out of her. What caliber did you get?
