Fluting existing barrel

Fluting carrys the same risk of dimensional alteration to the bore as reprofiling. If it works that’s great but if it causes problems it’s new barrel time. As others have said it won’t save much weight.
I rolled the bones and had a #3 contour fluted before chambering and melonited after chambering. Still held 3/4" moa at 500 meters. Killed more than dozen springbok and other assorted PG with it in RSA.

Thank you!!!

According to this website:

**We do not recommend fluting any factory barrel. We will do it upon request, but no guarantees are made to accuracy after fluting. Email us for more info on the subject**
Standard disclaimer on factory barrels. Best to have it done by the barrel manufacturer or an aftermarket vendor while it's still a blank or buy a rifle with it already fluted.

How about cutting an Octagon shape,,I think it could the rifle a more classic look. I once saw a Octagon twist barrel, it was stunning

I’ve sent Hart barrels back to Hart to be re-contoured. No apparent loss of accuracy. They will also flute their barrels after the fact. They are button rifled and I believe double heat treated. All stainless. Not sure if re-contour or fluting after the fact is recommended for the cut rifle barrels that are all the rage these days.

Many gunsmiths will advise against re-contouring. Partly because it can be a pain to set up, time consuming, and beating the chatter can be an ordeal. It really does make more sense to replace it in most situations.

Phillip I was reviewing some of the auctions online and saw your Nubian Ibex hunt coming up this weekend. It also showed you have Addax and Axis deer. Is there a website I can go to and see the lodge, cost of animals and what is available? Thanks Mark
