First time Safari with Family

Hello everyone,

I’m new to the forum and to the world of safaris. I'm a lifelong hunter from Montana, and I’m planning to take my family of four (with kids aged 14 and 12) on a trip that includes hunting, sightseeing, and experiencing local culture. We’re mostly interested in hunting plains game.

I would appreciate any feedback on which countries to visit and recommendations for outfitters. I have the opportunity to purchase a safari package with Theron Safaris, who seem great and reputable. However, my only concern is that the hunt is being arranged through Charity Safaris, and I recently came across some concerning information about the manager there.

I’m not wealthy, so the price point is what initially attracted me, but I want to ensure that we have a fantastic experience as a family. Thank you for any advice you can offer!
Good day Sir, Francois Dorfling here, Owner of Umlilo Safaris: we host numerous Families each year and we make sure each individual has a great time. We can comfortably provide great plains game hunting TOGETHER with/in COMBINATION of non-hunt/sightseeing safari activities....all within very affordable cost. Package Price you are quoted and commit to will be the only cost there is, zero hidden or extra costs afterwards. I dont overbook my Camp either.... exclusitivity and individual care and attention is paramount to me! Will gladly put you in touch with Families that been with us before...some of which have been on up to 10 x Safaris with us! Look forward to hear from you!

Welcome to the Forum

Yes would be interested in your experience. Ill check out Bos en Dal Safaris. How did you choose them? I feel like there are soooo many out there its tough to choose
We did South Africa in 2024 - and are planning to go back in 2026 and take our 9 and 10 year old. We have a great experience with Bos en Dal Safaris and are headed there again. They have a super economical package and have their own kids that age which makes it a great experience for families. We’re also from Montana and would also chat directly with you on our experiences!

Good Day Flanders357

Welcome to AH.A great community with a wealth of experience that they are happy to share and some awesome outfitters that would make your family trip an unbelievable experience.

Tsala Safaris would love to host your family.I would suggest our South African property with a lodge and accommodation made for families and in close proximity to many other activities.

I will send you a dm with more info.

You are most welcome with any questions you might have.

Regards

Rouan

Welcome to AH @Flanders357 I am sure we will be able to meet your needs, will send you a private message.

Welcome @Flanders357 ! I can see what an overwhelming choice you have as there are many good outfitters out there as can be attested to in this thread. I'm glad when I went the first time I was able to rely on a couple friends who had been and so I had a direct recommendations from people I knew personally who had been. That makes a big difference to me.
Saying that, I went on my first safari with a friend to Bos en Dal Safaris located in the Northwest Province of South Africa. This trip was in 2023 and my friend had been the year before with them and he is returning in 2026 for another hunt. I took my son that first year and I was so happy with the trip and hunt I booked another trip with them in 2024. You can see my hunting report for the 2023 trip (although it's not complete yet : ) ) In the hunting report thread.
For the 2024 trip I talked my close friends (@BigSky2212 and her husband) in to going with me and they were also so impressed that while we were on that trip they already booked a trip back to Bos en Dal for 2026 with their children. I will wright hunting report on that trip at some point soon.
@Bos en Dal SAFARIS is very affordable and Gerrit can work with you on a package to your liking (one of the reasons I chose them also was their more affordable price). You and yours will be treated like a member of the family with them for sure.
I also am from Montana and if you would like to direct message me I would certainly help answer any questions you have.
Another perk of @Bos en Dal SAFARIS is they have a representative for them in the States, @mdwest , and you can make payments directly through him and you can also get in touch with him to answer your questions.
I am hoping to go again in 2027 and will definitely be going back to Bos en Dal!
If you feel like a trip to Dallas in January ( 9th-11th) to the Texas Trophy Hunters Association Outdoor Extravaganza, you can meet directly with Gerrit and his wife as they will have a booth at that show (I will be right beside them).
Please feel free to reach out.

Where in Montana are you from?

Nice! im in Bozeman but dont hold that against me...Native Montanan from Helena and been in Bozeman before the boom..

Unfortunately every large town in Montana has had a boom. In my opinion most of it detrimental to the state. Billings has so much traffic now it's like driving in Dallas except without the 6 and 8 lane highways.
