I went to Tasmania and traveled to the central highlands.
Idiots went through that night with spotlights blazing, firing shots into the ground etc etc
No fallow!
But I did shoot a doe just on dark next day.
Hit right shoulder area as she was watching me. Next shot through ribs.
Lost her in the thick, thick scrub.
I shot her with my 25/06 using 117 grain bullets.
I thought she was 300 yards away. Measured the distance next day and it was well over 350 m!
I truly hate leaving a wounded animal

I shot the doe on the flat area but she was just into the scrub.

That's terrible Doc & doesn't speak well of the 25/06 !

Looks familiar to me, I used to live at Lake Crescent & my buddy owned the Great Lake Pub.

Shot the doe on the edge of the scrub from the flat area just on dark
Really upsets me I left a wounded animal.
The Tasmania devils would have got her.

I am sorry to hear this. I recall the rifle had a special significance to you. So, it's upsetting to hear this did not go as planned.

Tiger snakes were around!!
Almost snowed.
I got covid and took it home.
I’m as popular as pork in Jerusalem!!
I had my fifth covid shot just before I flew to Tassie.
2 astras and 3 Pfizer
Off color for two days - wife yikes over two weeks and she’s still sick

Have the Devils numbers come back up, they were near gone from the Facial Cancer while I lived there hardly saw a one & I was on the road most days & nights ?

Back in the 90s when I was there, you would see hundreds maybe !

And to top it off Baz’s friend had liver cancer (like 3/4 bottle of scotch per day for in excess of ten years) had assisted dying (but only shortened life by days).
He was also a client.
Thanks Pheroze

Right by the side of the hunters shack there’s a female devil in a burrow. She had two babies running around last year.
PS want to pat one??
On YouTube crash Craddock the singer fed devils but obviously they were used to humans

That's good to hear, it was hit very hard around there, I found a Monster on the road side the size of a Staffy Dog with a Huge head, but horribly disfigured by the Cancer the poor thing couldn't see I suppose & was killed by a car !!

A very very hard shot
But I don’t think it’s the fault of the 25/06.
One of my buddies said it was 400m plus
Not easy lying on ground just on dark

That’s interesting that you used to live at Lake Crescent . I was co-owner of The Interlaken Estate which fronted onto the west side of both Lake Crescent and Lake Sorrel . The fallow deer were out of control even though we allowed known hunters onto the property ( plus poachers ) . They only wanted stags - I only shot does. In 2004 we had permits to cull 400 per annum . By 2021 when I sold it was 1200pa . And we used every tag every year . I didn’t shoot all the fallow personally but I did shoot hundreds with my 7x57 using spotlights . I have aLao culled Roos and buffalo on properties where I have been an owner . Never an enjoyable experience . The water photo of Sorrel is from north west end of the property looking towards Table Mountain .

@Sarg
Nothing wrong with the 25-06.
I've shot a truck load of deer, pigs and goats with my 25 and never had an issue. I mainly use 117gn SST and they are a very emphatic killer out to my longest shot of close on 400 yards.
I also use 100 grainers.
At the moment I'm trialing 100gn TTSX and 115 gn combined technology silver tipss. Will keep you posted on how they go.
The 25-06 is on of the best deer cartridges around in my humble unbiased opinion.
