CZ 550 sights

Hello everyone, I'm new here and to the CZ 550. I bought a CZ 550 in 458 Winchester Magnum about 4 months ago used and I'm having an issue with the iron sights. When I'm shooting at a 100 yards my point of impact is a good two feet high. I'm shooting Barnes 450 gr. TSX and the chronograph says they're around 2238 fps. I checked other posts about sights on here and found one about the different sight heights. I took off my my front sight and it was stamped number 8 and measured 5.93mm. I'm not sure if this is a ammo type issue or if this is another issue. Everything, as far as I can tell, factory. Thank you for any information.

Well a bit more work but.
The term for sights is boreline which is the center line of the bore to the sight picture.
For the front sight, measure from the bottom of the sight band to the bottom of the bead. Measure the band diameter at the bead location.
Height-diameter/2 is the front sight boreline
Do the same for the rear sight, a bit harder unless u remove the barrel. With the barrel in place, measure from the top of barrel to the bottom of the v-groove. Measure the barrel diameter at the v-groove location.
Boreline is diameter/2 + top of barrel to v-groove.
The rear boreline should be about 22/1000”
Higher than the front boreline for a 100yd zero.
If reasonable close, then something else with the barrel

Assuming it’s not an ammo issue, it sounds like you need to swap in a shorter front sight. There’s a formula out there to calculate the correct height based on your POI at 100-yds.

Anyway, years ago CZUSA (out of Kansas) used to sell different front-sight inserts for the CZ 550 line. I bought a couple. NEGC might have front sights for the CZ line as well. Best to check their website.

No Necg cz front sights but they do sell 1fixed, 1 folding cz rear replacement sight and can then be file in for POI

Thank you for reply! I followed your instructions and I got 0.286 inches. I did measure it a few times to double check my measurements.

for a 458winmag with your muzzle velocity, 24"high at 100yd range, is a sight elevation of angle of
0.150"! and you measure 0.286??
I measured my cz550 375HH American:
front sight boreline=0.8215"
rear sight boreline =0.880 (100yd fixed sight)
elevation = 0.058", should be about 21/1000, good enough.

Wouldn’t a shorter front sight make it shoot higher again with that ammo.
Maybe the previous owner shot reduced loads and needed the extra height for zero.

Thanks for catching my typo. Yes, generally a high point of impact means a taller front sight is indicated to lower POI, other things being equal.
