Though I have been registered on here for quite a few months, this is my first classified post. This could be a red flag, but I am also a close personal friend of a long time member here, @cash_tx and who has seen and examined this rifle personally.

I purchased this rifle from a friend who needed money for cataract surgery. It is not the type of rifle I typically hunt with, so I decided to let it find a new home with someone who will appreciate its beauty and quality.

According to the serial number this Remington 700 action was manufactured in 1968. Since it has a custom barrel, it doesn't have the 2 digit barrel code. Knowing who originally owned the rifle, the time stamp would make sense. It is stainless and smooth as butter as a custom build should be. The trigger has had a trigger job and pulls at a crisp 1lb 12 ounces. The barrel and rifle were built by a custom gunsmith in Odessa, TX named Cecil Tucker. Cecil was a renowned benchrest and long range shooter. The scope is a Nikon 4-12x50 on Burris base and rings, which is pretty typical of rifles from this era.. Fajen is on the recoil pad, so it is a Fajen custom thumb hole laminate stock.

Thus far I have discovered no flaws in this rifle. There are no scratches on the stock, barrel, or action. The barrel does not appear to have had many rounds through it. The lands and grooves do not appear to show any wear.

I have probably equivalent of 3 boxes of shells, looks like one is factory, others maybe reloads. I do have the reloading dope that was in one of the boxes of shells.

I am asking $2,000.00 plus shipping to FFL dealer, for this primo custom rifle. I am in the North Dallas, Texas area. I can meet for a face to face and examination of rifle.
I will accept cash, cashiers check, or Zelle. I can take a credit card through my business but require a 3% up-charge.

As Bob said, he has been registered on this site for several months (at my recommendation) but this is his first time posting in the Classifieds, so I wanted to chime in and vouch for him. He has been a close friend for many years, and he is as good of a guy to deal with as you could possibly ask for. I have gotten a number of guns and parts/accessories from Bob over the years, and have always had a great experience.

As for the rifle itself, I have inspected it personally and it looks immaculate to me. I perceive a great combination of high quality components and workmanship that have been invested into this build. I suppose this rifle will be most appealing to someone who is interested in some combination of long range hunting and this classic caliber. If you or someone you know would be interested, I would certainly encourage taking a good look at this one. GLWS!

Very interesting custom gun in a great caliber. Do you know what the twist is in the custom barrel?

Just a clarification, the action was not made in 1968. All pre-1974 or so actions did not have a letter prefix. The 'S' prefix would more likely be 1988 or later. Not that it makes a big difference, but just wanted you to be aware.

I wish I did. There are no markings on the barrel other than the one listing Cecil Tucker and the caliber. I have Googled everyway I can to try and find more info. Sorry no luck so far.

Bob, I've got a cleaning rod that's already setup to measure twist rates, and would be happy to do so.

The standard twist rate for a .264 Winchester Magnum is 1 in 9 inches. This means the rifling in the barrel will complete one full turn for every 9 inches of barrel length. This twist rate is often used for .264 Winchester Magnum because it's suitable for the bullet lengths and weights commonly used with this cartridge.

Couldn't find anyhing on this barrel other than Cecil Tuckers name and 264 Win Mag

Most of my hunts are solo — just me, my rifle, and a good map. Sometimes I tag along with an old buddy for a week in Zimbabwe or South Africa, but more often than not, it’s just me.
Big fan of classic hunting — bolt-action rifles, old-school tracking, and taking the time to really be in the moment.
Just did a podcast, check it out if interested!
