Is it just my imagination or are controlled feed and fixed magazine rifles going extinct?. I've spent two full days scouring the net looking at the new offerings but the only ones I'm interesting in are old or discontinued. The CZ 550 seems to be the last of the line for these Mauser action rifles. I have no criticism to make of push-feed and removable magazines because I haven't used one. Call me old fashioned possums but I just like the Mauser way.

By fixed magazines, are you looking for blind floor plates or are hinged floor plates an option? While not as many production guns out there, you could have one assembled by any competent smith as all the components are in production individually

Winchester still offers such a rifle in the latest generation Win 70 Safari Express. I had one, nice rifles.

Other than 'safari' focussed arms though, that set up is a bit of a pain to live with, especially if you want a hunting / target shooting cross over rifle as seems to be the fashion right now.

Ruger Model 77, Win. Model 70, Rem. Model 700 BDL*

* if production is resumed by the new owners.

A different option is a custom build with a BigHorn CRF Origin action. Nice feature of this action is it can be used with most Remington and its clones aftermarket parts like stocks, bottom metal and triggers..

Rigby Highland Stalker or Big Game are both classic Mausers.

The Winchester Super Grade pre-64 model with the 24" barrel, Mauser action and hinged mag plate in 30-06 was one I found that I really liked. It ticked all the boxes and would most likely be the one I would buy. I didn't like the hi-gloss metalwork on the model I found (made in Portugal) but that could be remedied. The stock in American black walnut is lovely and weighing just over 8lbs bare, that's the kind of heft I want after suffering a lightweight in that caliber. Long may Winchester keep making the M70. Anyone on this forum who has one could they comment on usage and accuracy? i.e. do they favor brand/load over another?. Cheers

I prefer a totally blind magazine. I have never had shells missing once loaded :E Hmmm:
Not so easy to keep clean in the bush....
A properly made hinged floor plate will never ever give any issues..

Detachable magazine, plastic stock, stainless steel, tilted rail, adjustable wtf. Big scope with latest tactical reticle. And cheap. For Europeans add suppressor.
Seems this is what people want...

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
