Hello to everybody, hope all is well and that you guys are practising as much as possible.

I would like to know How do you go about to organize a hunting competition --selling of tickets and so forth.
Cheers

baas303,
i have no idea - but if it was me - i would start by contacting my local Nature conservation office and PHASA / NAPHA (depending where) and take it from there.

If on your own farm / friends farm - i guess you make the rules and determine the selling of tickets. If on a stranger's farm, best bet will obviously be to contact the owner and discuss with him whether in agreement or not with your venture.

Will be interesteing to see responses from hunters who have arranged / taken part in such competition(s)

Many different ways.

first find a location to host the event or shoot. Usually you gun or rifle club will allow events on days that they are not normally open to the public.

Second determine length of event or shoot. If you start at 10 AM and will run for 4 to 6 hours depending on competitors or invitees will you being providing lunch?

Sign up or check in point with Rest rooms...

Target setup and course lay out time to prep location...

Depending on your events many items are looked at one course at a time...usually a rifle club will have most of what you will need.

sorry guys what i meant was " say i have 1 kudu 1blesbuck etc and i want to sell tickets for a lucky draw How do I go about.

I guess it is a meat-hunt 'lucky draw' and not a trophy-hunt, and only for local hunters in your area / province, as no foreign hunter will go through all the expences travelling abroad for just a Kudu and Blesbok - right?

Usually tickets for such a 'lucky draw' is for a donated hunt / animals which the winner of the draw wins to go hunt for free. In your case the winner of the 'lucky draw' gets to hunt the animals for free, because they paid you already for the ticket - right?

As you are a private individual that will benefit financially, and not a non-profitable and registered organisation making a free donation, there may be legalities surrounding this matter - thus i would say - first of all - contact your legal advisor for guidance on your venture. That is what i would do.

If you are happy with all legalities sorted, hand the tickets to local businesses / golf club / rugby club / shooting club, etc. etc. for distribution, and advertise in your local paper - and state where interested parties can purchase tickets.

Good luck Dries

Dries,

What is the goal?
Charity, profit or marketing/promotion.
Who is your target audience?
Local, regional, national, international

If you look at the "contests" that have been offered on AH you can get some idea about a format.

Good luck.

Ok, Thank You for the feed back so far. I have received some good info. so far and I will get the ball rolling.
Regards

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
