Spike,
Not really sure you could get much lighter than an AR platform in 7.62, 18" bbl with collapsible stock or folder on a piston gun. I have several both piston and direct impingement guns, I like the piston guns much better. I am on the fence between three rifles I would pick out of the safe if I needed to push back a fight. The afore mentioned FN/FAL, HK 91 or the M1A SOCOM. All are great rifles, all shoot extreamly well, but they are all heavy. I do however not consider the extra weight of a 7.62 battle rifle a deal breaker when it comes to a choice between 5,56 or 7.62, I will take the 308 every time. From what I have read on the Colt it seems to be a well built rifle, I just don't care for the bulk of the modular rifles such as the SCAR, ACR and the like, they feel like they were designed for a kid that grew up playing Nintendo. The battle proven three I mentioned rest at the front of my safe and I would bet my ass on them any day of the week.
Cheers,
Cody

I have the Colt M4 in 5.56 NATO that is a Cracker Jack to shoot. Would be great for poachers, jackels and small plains game. Friend of mine has the same model and he killed a white tail deer last week with one shot. All that said I agree with others that I would rather have it I a 308.

nice charlie but got one of these which could be nicer than the colt ;) pws 114 with this bushnell scope and flip up irons, so covered in 223 dept thanks:) thats why asking bout the 308 variety and if there are any lighter in the many manufacturers producing them. i read an article in G & A mag about one that was the lightest being made ..i think a bit over 7lbs but cant remember the make.........

yup i know what you mean about the feel/looks of the scar type rifles . the colt to me didnt seem to weigh what the brochure says it does i thought it felt more in the 8lbs region. i was wondering if anyone had shot or had any experience with it as to reliability etcso this is good info... "From what I have read on the Colt it seems to be a well built rifle" ....if its still there when i get back next month will probably go for it.... and if its gone ...well i am sure he will be getting another one:D Beers:

They'll have to come hunting at Takeri if they want to find me... and they'll need one of these funny guns you like, since it's thick bush they may need a thermal scope to go with it.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
