long time reader, new member. lots of good info here.

Anyone have any difficulty getting the forearm off a Chapuis X4 Elan? New gun, I'm guessing it will break in and loosen up with shooting. The forearm lever comes out about half inch and I don't want to push it. Any tips?

I'm not sure what the problem is but...
Try opening the action to remove and replace the forend.
You are very likely correct that in time the rifle's action will loosen up a little to allow the forend removal and replacement with the action closed. Don't expect this to happen anytime soon.

Good luck!

thanks mark. makes sense. I don't think anything is wrong with it other than it's a little snug and I hate to man handle it. These double rifles are beautiful. I can see how people get an addiction.

The Chapuis had from new was the same, after some shooting and breaking it down a few times it lossened up
