This is not good for any hunter or the future of hunting if this passes in the U.S. House of Representatives. Please reach out to your Representatives to Oppose H.R. 2245.

CECIL Act Passes House Natural Resources Committee

    Member Alert
CECIL Act Passes House Natural Resources Committee

H.R.2245 "Conserving Ecosystems by Ceasing the Importation of Large Animal Trophies Act" (CECIL Act) passed the House Natural Resources Committee today on a straight party-line vote, 19-16.

The CECIL Act now sits in waiting for a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.

As a hunter and an advocate for conservation, join the Hunter Advocacy Action Center (HAAC) to stay informed on this issue and to tell your Representative to OPPOSE H.R.2245.

H.R. 2245 will derail clearly proven wildlife management strategies in Africa that are recovering the world's largest populations of lions, elephants, and other species. If implemented, H.R. 2245 would undermine the authority and the on-going wildlife management plans of several African nations. At best, this legislation is an ill-conceived attempt to substitute emotionalism with rational wildlife conservation.

Rep. Don Young (R-AK) noted that this legislation is based strictly on emotions and not sound science. "We sit here in our high seats, making decisions for other countries, when they have proven they can manage fish and game better than anyone else."

During the hearing of this bill in July, the Democratic majority chose to listen to American environmental groups, ignoring input from the African countries this legislation would directly impact, including Patience Gandiwa, the Executive Technical Advisor of Zimbabwe Parks & Wildlife Management Authority.

Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) said this legislation is "Exhibit A" of the colonial attitude certain lawmakers have in telling African countries how to best manage their wildlife, and that sentiment is "deeply resented across the entire continent for good reason."

These people just don’t understand and won’t learn the facts. This is purely driven by emotion.

The result will be extinction of the large species in the wild, just look at the mess Kenya has become outlawing sport hunting.

Though this site is not a political site, this thread shows how hunting and politics are intertwined. I cant agree with every policy of the NRA, but everyone here must recognize that without them, our hunting future is doomed. I am ashamed that I was once a Democrat. I view them as the biggest threat to hunting in general, and in the USA in particular.....congrats to this great website.........................FWB

If you congressional rep has a D before his name it will be a waste of time contacting them.

The pressure should be put on the Senate where it will have to go before it gets sent the Trump to sign or veto into law and has the best chance of being shut down.

We've already seen what this does:

1.) Supply of unbooked hunts goes up.
2.) Revenue not only goes down on the hunts booked, but flush supply diminishes $60,000 lion hunts to $6000 lion hunts.
3.) Loss of local incentives causes a return to poaching / poisoning.
4.) Due to poorer game management, hunts further reduce in price before disbanding from the area.
5.) Foreign investment continues to decline.

    Vicious cycle ensues.

Pull the pro versus anti out of it, this is a battle of capitalism versus socialism. One side wants wildlife to be so valuable that it is sold sparingly, for high prices, and that the incentives cause human nature to conserve things of great worth. The other side wants wildlife to be worthless, to stick it to the elites that they cannot buy anything, thus everyone can be equally miserable and impoverished at the whims of central planners.

    Disgusting.

Message sent, this absolutely is B.S. I am so sick of the politicians in this country sitting on their high thrones trying to pass these “feel good” laws yet they haven’t the slightest clue how the real world works. Pure hypocrites. Just like the continued assault on our 2nd Amendment rights. Facts and logic apparently don’t count for much to them. +1 to the others that said it, I have lost pretty all faith in our elected officials. Very sad.

Seems the House is a lost cause but I still have hope for the Republican Senate vetoing it, or the last hope of a Presidential veto!!!!!

Liberal hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me. And my country is caught in the grip of it as well. When it comes to the "climate crisis", anyone who challenges them are deemed Science Deniers. When you flip it the other way and manage wildlife scientifically with hunting, they deny it. Anyone who disagrees with them on any topic is to be publicly shamed. What a group of AssHats!!!

It will never see a vote in the U.S. Senate...provided it even makes it past a full vote in the House
