I have some 400 Hornady .470 cases.

What is the easiest way to cut them down to 3" for use in my .500 3" ex rifle?.

I have tried with lathe., but there must be a simpler way. I was thinking a simpel jig set-up with a dremel or something.

Most casetrimmers won`t take the .500cal rim like my RCBS Pro-trim II.

Contact Lee Precision and see if it's possible to make a custom die for their Quick Trim system.

Maybe even contact Dillon Precision to see if they can do a suitable die for their RT-1500 electric case trimmer.

Don't know if either would be doable, but worth finding out.

A trim die is how we used to cut down 45-70 cases to make 475 Linebaugh cases

Same here. Nobody does anything over .45 except Giraud, and that isn't cheap. Dillon and Lee will not go over .45, I've called or emailed everyone. I used to use a trim die for my 475 Linebaugh, like jwp475 did. Then I got a collect for a bench lathe, and started doing it that way. The collet makes all the difference, but also isn't' cheap. Forrester should be able to make a trim die. I tried a dremel on my 475 cases, and it was a nightmare. Rough edges and the blades didn't last. A trim die with a saw or a lathe are the only real options I know of.

Hi,
Wouldn't it be easier to sell the 470's and buy some 500 nitro 3"?
That's what I've been doing, using the nitro case for 500bpe rifle...
Just wondering...

If you're willing to go for a manual system, Forster make a trimmer designed to handle 470 NE, %00 NE etc. https://www.forsterproducts.com/product/classic-case-trimmer/ Don't know if you could add hex drive adapter to connect to a cordless drill.

@akrifleman is probably right, but Lee does make their quick trim dies for 500 S&W so width shouldn't be an issue. Won't hurt to ask their custom service to see if they can do a 470 NE.

Yes.

However its very difficult these days to get brass here in EU. The Norma .500 cases cost $ 11-12 a piece so in this "case" it makes sence to use oncefired Hornady brass I picked up for less than $1 a' piece. I am on look-out for Hornady .500cases but shipments from US take 6 months or more.

there are cut off trimming jigs for making 300 blackout from 223's available,
maybe you could convert one to suit?

it may be just be a pain in the back side job that you just have to endure

That what I love about Lee. Thay make some truly innovative gear at amazing prices. I've been using Lee presses, dies and other gear for years without incident or breakdown. For the price it produces remarkably accurate ammo

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
