Heading back to hunt with Cloud 9. Had such a great time and success on my recent hunt with them north of here, I decided to come back for snow geese and hopefully some ducks. Snow geese are the goal. Hunting out of Brooks this time.

My long term buddy Eric will join me. He and I served our Union Steamfitter apprenticeship together and have known each other each other for 36 years. We fish, sporting clays shoot, and hunt together. He’s recently retired and needed a trip like this.

We’re currently at SFO with with wheels up at 8:00am!

Wish us luck!

With food like that, who needs luck?!-enjoy!

If you don't post a hunt report, I will do something.... not sure what... but will think bad thoughts...
Have fun...!!!

I’ve gotten better at posting over the years!

Here’s the previous hunt:

Soak overnight in salt water and crock pot or ina roaster pan with chili sauce or sweet salsa-they can be excellent!

Flight delayed due to a paint peeling defect that needed repair and approval had us sitting on the plane at the gate for an extra hour. Made it to Canada. Uneventful flight after that. Easy access into Canada through Kiosk Biometrics… SUV waiting at Enterprise.

Couple stops for supplies - including Whiskey. Leisurely 1 1/2 hour drive to Brooks, with plenty of geese being observed along the way. Met Ben our outfitter/guide at Heritage Suites where we are staying. Then headed over to a nice restaurant for dinner, which is part of our package.

He has scouted and will have us start on geese in layout blinds. Field is a 15 minute drive from the Hotel. 5:30am for setup and shoot time at 7:04am.

More to come…

I hope you get into them in a big way. There were TONS of them in the area 10 days ago.

The best recipe for snow geese that I know of is wrap a breast around a jalapeño pepper and then wrap a bacon strip around the breast. Use a toothpick to hold it all together. Grill until the bacon looks done. Remove from the grill, eat the bacon and jalapeño and let the dog eat the goose breast. Use the toothpick as needed.

Day 1:

Limits of Ducks
27 Geese - 3 Were Dark Geese.

Finished by 8:00am. Left the field early to preserve it.

Something special happened for me. I had 2 triple doubles on snows. Ben (guide) insists one was a quad. I’m aware that I didn’t shoot a 3rd shot on one of the Triple doubles. Which is amazing for me because I have a bad habit of flock shooting.

Truth is the geese were coming in perfectly and we were able to pick our shots.

We’ll check the video and post it later…

The LH Benelli didn’t disappoint! Very accurate with several headshots… Ben’s lab (Daisy) is so well trained and such a pleasure to hunt with!

There was a hail storm a few months ago that knocked down the crop fields. Including the pea field adjacent to the wheat field we hunted.

After a great afternoon hunt with a few locals; a couple farmers and one of their sons, for a few more geese and 4 more limits of ducks, we headed to Nikko Sushi for some great sashimi and rolls! And a Sapporo…

Tough to see on the first shot, but our guide was excited!

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
