CAMEROON: Bongo & Forest Sitatunga - May 15-31, 2024

Congrats on your adventure in getting 2 very nice animals.

Thanks for your very interesting report about your hunt.

Congratulations on a fine bongo and the rare forest sitatunga! The jungle is a specialized hunt... as you said, buggy, warm and humid. I seemed to be always covered in sweat and uncomfortable but the prizes the jungle offers are worth the price. Well done. I am sure both trophies will be viewed over the rest of your years with fond memories!

Fabulous trip- not sure how I missed it when it was posted.

Congratulations great hunt and write up! I’ve been infatuated with bongo since I saw an article about hunting them in Outdoor Life probably 50 years ago. That would be my ultimate hunt, a hunt that will probably never happen but I love the dream of it. Congratulations again!

Awesome report! I depart for Cameroon in 22 days!
Good luck! Where and who are you hunting with? Hunt hard and don't get discouraged. Got my bongo on day 14 of 21 days!

Congratulations. You are about to depart on one of the world’s great hunts in a truly remote area. I want to return to the African equatorial jungle again for another hunt, in due time.

Best of luck and please share your photos and stories upon your return. Happy hunting to all, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

I'll be hunting with mayo oldiri.

Update: I picked up my crate this afternoon from the Cameroon May 2024 jungle hunt for bongo and forest sitatunga at the Coppersmith Chicago warehouse. (11 month delivery and turnaround - not too bad.)

All of the bongo and forest sitatunga horns, hides, and skulls were in good shape and very well labeled and packaged. Next stop is the taxidermist. Happy hunting to all, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

Fantastic news

looks like the hunt of a lifetime.
Enjoyed your story immensely (and still reading!)

Congrats on the bongo. That's not one i see everyday.

Another update: Someone in Cameroon fraudulently charged $25.96 at the Starland Motel on 5/31/2025 (posted to account 7/1/2025??) to one of my credit cards that I paid for a meal - almost exactly 1 year to the day when I was in Duoala, Cameroon returning from this jungle hunt.

Luckily, I diligently review my charges and statements every month and caught the fraud. The bank cancelled the card and issued a new one immediately.

I have now had a credit card fraudulently charged in Botswana after the leopard hunt, in Cameroon after the jungle hunt, and also in South Dakota after a deer hunt. I probably need to carry and use more cash??

Also, I’m thinking of getting a separate card before my next hunt and just closing the account immediately upon returning back to the States. Heads up out there…

Good luck and happy hunting to all, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.
