Bullet Performance Database

This deadly little mushroom started out life as a Hornady 150 gr. .308 cal. SST bullet, it now weighs in at 93.1 gr. It was shot out of my 308 Win. at a muzzle velocity of just over 2800 fps and impacted a big bodied mule deer at a range of approximately 60 yards. It impacted him just behind the shoulder while he was standing broadside to me, the nasty little bullet turned everything in the deer's chest cavity to jelly while passing through it and came to rest just under the skin on the far side. If you look closely at the bucks right side you can see the bullet hiding under his skin.
@jduckhunter
My son's 308 loves the 150gn SST and the way it works on game

416 Ruger, 350 grain TSX hand-load, mature Alaskan bull moose, forehead bullet entry just above the bottom of eye line, traveled into neck vertebrae, substantial bone destruction.

311.5 grains Recovered bullet weight. One of the petals was in would channel adjacent to bullet. I lost that petal during the cleaning process.

I don't have a bullet to show, but I believe the bullet did a proper job...
Type of bullet RWS EVO bonded
Bullet speed: 840 m/s
Distance of shot: 110 Meters
Original weight: 11.9G ( 184 grains)
Recovered weight: - not recovered
Calibre: .308" .30R Blaser
Species: Canadian Moose
Shot placement: diagonally through both lungs, breaking ribs on both sides and bottom of scapula and exit through far side shoulder. RWS advertises "convincing penetration" and I agree. Wound channel appeared quite wide, and the moose dropped within 5-10 meters after the hit.

Finally retrieved a 308 150gn SST.
Muzzle velocity 2,900fps from my son's 308.
Game feral pig around 70kg.
Range 70 yards
Quartering shot thru the last rib heart and lungs destroyed and bullet lodged in the fighting pad.
Retained weight 117.4 grains or 78%.

I'm sorry! The real remains of a KS bullet that passed through both shoulder blades of a moose have just been found! The guy who got the corresponding piece of meat has just discovered them!
And the photos of the flattened FMJ bullet in the palm of hand are the Norma Jaktmatch 9.7 g bullet, It was used for the second shot, since two shots are required in a roundup hunt to distinguish it from random single shots.

There was an impression that the KS bullet falls apart when it collides with large bones and even sometimes ribs. I don't know if it should be used for a large autumn boar, which is covered with "armor" on the shoulders.

Brumby stallion quartering forward 100 yards, hit on the point of the shoulder, recovered under the skin just behind the opposite shoulder. He did 3 circles, went 20 yards and dropped dead on the spot.

Out looking for a scrub bull Ive seen a couple of times but haven't been able to get a shot at, I keep coming up short and running into brumbies, another monster stallion taken yesterday.

450 Rigby
Muzzle velocity 2240fps
Estimated impact velocity 2240fps
Retained weight 365.1 grains, 76%.
Finishing shot from a couple of yards in the spine, bullet recovered just under the skin between the front legs. Probably wasn't necessary as the first shot went straight through both shoulders but I quite often put a finishing shot in on big animals anyway.

I want a .450 Rigby!

@CoElkHunter
You can't have one yet. You have to get a 35 Whelen first then you might be allowed to play with the bigger toys.
Bob
Well, @Forrest Halley said I could get one whenever I want, as long as someone else here buys one for me. And, I already have a .338WM, so a .358 Norma Magnum would be redundant?

@Forrest Halley is telling you porkys mate.
Mrs Elk hunter said you don't need it and to sell your little 338WM and get a Whelen. If'n y'all gits a 450 anythang she is going to slap you sillier than you already are. She can't se why you needs all them guns when a fast 25 and a Whelen is all you need , then you could take her out for dinner and thank her for her enlightened views. See a win ein situation there. You should listen to her really.
Geeze I better stop or I will start telling you as much bullshit as @RandyF does.
Mrs Elk hunter really did tell me all those things. Would I lie to you. Nah

Spent a bit of time mucking around and testing on the range today, shooting some big Woodleighs into water drums. The load also turned out to be very accurate off the sticks at 50m, I will be using it for buffalo mid 2022.
