Kiss your hinge pin good-bye.Have a HR Buffalo Classic that I opened up to a 45/100, Have just been shoot plinking 405gr loads. Might need to push it up into the 458 WM level loads.
Except, my friend, I have done a couple dozen H&R SB2 frames in high pressure, high thrust cartridges, via rebores and stubs and I have bent MANY, MANY hinge pins... so as I said, good luck with that@hoytcanon When I do the bolt thrust calculations the 45/100 even loaded to 458WM pressures come to less than the 500S&W that are built on the same actions. so I am not concerned about the hinge pin.
I had a machinist friend make me a batch of pins... and I used them. I went through an H&R phase... they are fun and inexpensive to work on... I did many switch barrel sets, ie.@hoytcanon Thank you for the information. I haven't bent one yet but my number of SB2 frames is only a couple.. I will watch for that problem to raise its ugly head.
When you replaced the pin did you use one from H&R or make one?

I probably have some walnut blanks left in the shop... you will need to sand and finish with TruOil (or similar), but they will be bolt-on ready.I have a lot also & went through even more back in the day, made one in .500NE 3 1/4in, at slightly less weight than in 45/70, full nitro loads were like being in a Train Crash every shot !
Do you have any spare stock sets you can send to NZ, my only nice one was the Cinnamon laminate but it went with the .500NE ?
Always a concern when hunting a herd animal.I’m wondering if a concern might be over-penetration. I’d hate to accidentally draw blood and maybe kill another.
buffalo don't eat meatWhat I learned in this forum....
You will die.....for sure...no matter what bullet you chose.... your bullets will bounce of the buffalos skin, and the cape buffalo will eat you for breakfast.

Please explain your dislike for the belted cartridge in a bolt gun, I've been using them for many years and never a problem. I would not hesitate to use a 458 Win mag in a CRF bolt gun for buffaloNo, no, no...not even close.
Let me answer this in the proper AH way.
Why would you use a 458WM in a bolt action rifle when it has a belted cartridge?
What are you crazy or just have a death wish?
You need a proper Buffalo cartridge that is rimless, like the 416Rigby, 404Jeffery or 505Gibbs.
Otherwise yes, you will end up as Buffalo breakfast.
And don't even get me started on going DG hunting with a rifle that doesn't have CRF...![]()
This was written in jest. Although there are detractors when it comes to belted cartridges because of the potential of that belt catching and causing a problem when chambering or extraction. Please explain your dislike for the belted cartridge in a bolt gun, I've been using them for many years and never a problem. It’s a joke. Brought on my many many many similar comments made about the 458WM over the years on this forum. Please explain your dislike for the belted cartridge in a bolt gun, I've been using them for many years and never a problem.
