We are all faced with difficult availability and a back-up plan for the more obscure calibers we enjoy. I learned a lot from a previous thread on how to convert 375 RUM brass to 404 Jeffery. Tried it and it worked in my rifle on a single load basis but the rim was just a little smaller than the 404 rim and they wouldn't feed from the mag one after the other. So here I go posing a question, is it possible to convert 416 Ruger brass to 425 WR? To me it looks like it could be done with the further modification that you would have to spin and file down the rim on the 416 Ruger,....which actually might be a good thing as you could find the sweet spot with your 425. Allow me to go a little further as to why I would explore this madness. We all know that you need to have the proper headstamp brass for the ammo you take on safari,....thus giving logic to conserving that brass for the hunts. Bertram appears to be the only company making 425 WR brass, but it is nonexistent in the USA,....maybe Bertram doesn't want the American business anymore? I even called Westley Richards and asked if I could buy a supply of brass from them for my rifle in their caliber.....NOPE, they didn't even have any LOL. Next, Quality Cartridge Co,...does he actually produce anything? IMO that company falls under the same category as Swift, great product, terrible production and availability. You may ask next, who even makes bullets for the 425 WR. Well, Woodleigh, but we are all aware of the supply issue there. Enter Hammer Bullets and Hawk Bullets. Hammer already has a fragmenting soft point made and in stock for the 425, and they will actually build a solid to your spec if you so desire. Hawk builds a great soft point bullet, you can all and order them, have a conversation with the owner, and have your bullets in 60 days. I don't think I would hesitate to shoot a buffalo with Hawks soft point with a 60 thou jacket.

I'm really looking forward to hearing the ideas and thoughts from you fellow handloaders....as we head into winter in the northland here this could be a great winter project for me.

They make .425 bullets also .
