Any recommended reading or videos about hunting in Europe? One source on videos that I like is on MyOutdoorTV.com...lots of production quality videos on roe buck, driven boar, fallow, mouflon, stag, etc. like those that have Franz Albrecht featured. I haven't found any great contemporary reading on hunting in Europe and yet, European hunting is highly developed and goes WAY back into the culture. So who's writing some great modern books about it...hopefully available in English! Or is there a great hunting journal/periodical for Europe that is available in English? Seems like a huge market and I've probably just not found it yet.

There are a great many hunting books about Europe, mine are mostly in german and very old. Books about our hunting traditions, the poachers, how to judge the age of the game and so on.
I like books about hunting the Carpathian Mountains and chamois hunting in the Alps.

But i suggest you try the following books in english, which give a good overview about hunting in Europe; although they are several years old:

Lloyd Newberry: European Hunter
J. Y. Jones: Another Rifle, another Land
Peter Horn: Hunting across the Danube

And for historical european hunting books in english i would recommend Charles Boner, Baillie-Grohman or Randolph Hodgson.
Not to forget the old british literature of fox hunting, deer stalking and the like.

A contemporary hunting periodical in English would be "The Field" from the UK.

I recently bought Hunting across the Danube by Peter Horn and have found it an enjoyable read. It was published in 2014 I believe and is no longer in print but you can find used copies online for sale. If you are looking at Hungary and Romania it is a good read.

Which European languages do you read? The wast majority of books and films will not be in english.

"Boganis Jagtbreve" by Wilhelm Dinesen, first published in 1889 and continuously in print ever since, is the book to read on hunting in Denmark. It is still quite relevant, hunting traditions evolve slowly. Every hunter here seems to own a copy and know it by heart. Apparently it has been translated into english as "Boganis: Letters from the Hunt by Wilhelm Dinesen" .

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
