wow. and I was just extolling savage's innovative virtues on another thread just this morning.

Very interesting...

The ability to move the bolt handle from the right to left is pretty attractive too (Im a lefty)...

Google doesnt reveal much more than the 2 videos in the OP.. Im wondering what sort of price point theyre looking at and whether or not they'd be an easy barrel swap like a Blaser..

The bolt internals look a bit complicated.. hopefully thats not a "weakness" in the system...

Either way.. good on Savage for staying innovative and continuing to bring new things to market..

Yeah, now I'm seeing a 280 AI in my near future. Hopefully they're still using the same barrels they've always used. That would make for an easy swap.

I found one link that showed "coming soon" on the rifle, listed price was about 1150.

Good news for the lefties!

Adding to the pile of irrelevant innovations with Steel action, Heym, Strasser, Lynx, Merkel Helix and Browning maral. Chapuis had the wits to copy the magazine above the trigger that makes R8 stand above the others but in typical french manner made look cheap and shoot poorly.

Not likely to lure potential a Blaser owner to Savage IMO.
The adaptability of the Blaser R8 far exceeds AccuFit/Stock/Trigger.

I'm happy that Savage continues to make innovations.
It's their execution of those innovations I don't like.
Wrapping it in (what feels like) a cheap plastic stock.
That's how you sell a straight pull for less than $1K.

Anyone know the action length is?
Caliber selection and interchangeability will be vital.
Doing it as easy as the European quick change systems?
That's another ball of wax with the Savage barrel nut.
Not really sure how American hunters will react to this.

BTW - Browning has had Maral available in Europe for quite a while.
Odd that they haven't brought it to American shores.
Wonder why that is.

The Accustock has the aluminum bedding block. It's not their standard tupperware, el cheapo. The triggers aren't target rifle material but function well in the hunting theater. As far as the market, agree the Blaser isn't in the same ballpark but then again either is the price. :)

Pulled from another forum: Just some more info/graphics.

As far as all the other input about copying, check out Columbus and the egg.

I know of where I speak...
I had a Savage Model 16 Bear Hunter in 300WSM.
It too had the AccuStock and I was not impressed.
The AccuTrigger wasn't bad, but does take some getting used to.
In all not a bad rifle, but there were several little things that bugged the crap out of me.
It now belongs to another...no love lost.

The Impulse is a whole new ball of wax.
But it's wrapped in the same stock.
Personally...I wouldn't go down that road again.
Even if I didn't have a Blaser.

@Hogpatrol
Mate I think savage is on a winner. If'n it shoots as well as other savages it will give ALL other straight pulls a run for their money.
Being savage replacement prefit barrels will be cheap and easy to change.
No it's not an R8 that is complicated in its simplicity but barrel change in the same bolt head size would be a doddle to anyone with basic skills.

@Sgt zim
I can see the twinkle in your eye sarge at the thought of a new lefty.
Now just choose your caliber.

I believe ejection is always to the right.
So you can reverse the bolt handle, but not the ejection.
That's not a true LH rifle by any stretch of the imagination.

Typical R8 owner pernicky about the little things ha ha ha ha ha ha ha . It ain't a R8 but it's still neat for the proposed price you could still put a wood stock on it.
We will wait and see how it goes mate you never know it may not take off but still a good idea.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
