Hi everyone,

I'm looking at the Blaser R8 as a rugged rifle. Could you tell me if the bolt rails are steel running on aluminum raceways? Should I be concerned about wear in the receiver raceways? I've searched a tonne and can't seem to find any commentary on this.

Thanks!

What are the rails made of? Are they aluminum rails on aluminum raceways?

I currently have 3 aluminum receivers and sold a steel one a couple years back. Never had an issue with either. I run a light oil that is just enough for a thin film. With thousands of rounds downrange from each rifle...never had a problem.

Thanks for replying. Seems I'm concerned about a non-existent issue. Come to think of it, semi-auto pistols like the Beretta 92 and the Sig P226 have existed for eons with steel slides and aluminum frames. The 92 is one of the most reliable pistols out there.

I think I'll try a very light coating of Aeroshell 64 grease. Operating temps are -73C to 121C.

See you are from Denmark - see quite a few Danes where I stalk in Scotland - great hunters.
The Harkilia stuff works well in Africa - I have a bit for use here in UK.
I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
