Black owned hunting safari businesses?

This is not a loaded question all, nor is that the intent. When I travel in Africa, I prefer to spend my money at small local businesses. When I was looking for a tour operator in Tanzania, I wanted to make sure all of my money stayed within those communities. So no European/American travel companies doing business in Tanzania. Secondly, only 15% of the tour companies, in Africa, are black owned. We ended up booking with Mar Tours in Moshi Tanzania. https://martoursandsafaris.com/

I'm just asking for information, it's as simple as that.
Let me add my 2c....

I was born and raised in the apartheid era.....raised by a black African....I spoke her language before I could speak Afrikaans or English....
When I started my compulsary military service I just wanted to kill "Terrorists".....I started as a tampax tiffy(Medic)...advanced to a specialised Medical battalion which included qualifying as a Parabat, then becoming an Instructor in the same Battalion...which included chemical and biological warfare.....from there I did a SF course....ending up as the nr.1 "student" out of 16 volunteers.......I have 48 operational flights in Oryx and Puma choppers as.fire force commander....

I am qualified to RSM level but only got promoted to Staff Seargent level by the time I decided to quit.....

Believe me it took a huge effort to go through a paradighm shift to get past all that post apartheid....

I understand your quist and need to interact with the grass root level locals in your adventures....by all means do....

One thing I can assure you however is that more of your money will reach the locals if you hunt through a non local indigenous outfitter....it is just the way it works in Africa.....

That last paragraph is something rather interesting and certainly research worthy. The more information the better. I did talk to a RSA safari company that went over all the details post hunt. Especially when it comes to the meat. I can't take it with me so it goes to a local village. I told them that I wanted to be part of that process. One of the things I love about Africa, is nothing goes to waste.

Hi @Sketchy1973 , this post is going to be famous, we are at 5 pages so far :ROFLMAO:

Now, don´t worry, I think most of us here understand what your question is, but in Africa, talking about race is bound to ruffle a few feathers.

Welcome from a 3rd generation African who has a very white skin :D Cheers:

Yep, I stirred that one up.

I had two upstanding Ethiopia hunts with Colonel Negussie. He was a good man.

That would be Colonel Negussie Eshete.
During the Haile Selassie era he completed the US Army Jump School at Fort Benning. He retired with the rank of Colonel in the Ethiopian Army and started his own safari company "Rocky Valley Safaris" (not to be confused with another Ethiopian company called "Rift Valley Safaris"). He passed away some years ago well into his nineties.

If there are any safari companies that are making so much money that they are sending profits to the US or Europe, I am unaware of them. All of the jobs are held by locals, the money is spent and the meat is used locally. I have not hunted in all of the African countries, but I have met many outfitters from several countries in Southern Africa.
So, unless you are a racist, and do not want to hunt with a white African citizen, I still can't see the reason for your question. It sounds like "virtue signaling" to me.

I worded the question inappropriately and I have regret of the posting. But if you read rest of the form you'll see what my intentions are.

I've also been known to shoot a few honkers. Quite a few.

Watch this Video. We had 6 hunters in the blind. We harvested 42 late season honkers in 1.5 hours. It took us way longer to build the blind, set decoys and clean up everything, than it did to actually hunt.

I couldn't get the deeks staked before the honkers were landing. Fortunately no wind to blow them over. I was done with a limit of five in twenty minutes including a triple. One of them appeared to fall behind me in the standing corn. The dogs and I looked for half an hour until coming face to face with a VERY large black bear also looking for goose dinner. Got out of that jam okay with two mature well behaved dogs. I stepped back into the stubble and there was the dead honker. I usually shoot thirty to fifty honkers every year and call it quits. Daily limit is five honkers but possession is as many as I can stuff in a warehouse. Thirty is plenty for me.

Okay. I believe you. You just need to understand that we have been "race baited" on this forum before. One guy (who was black) used up a lot of space lecturing us on not calling Africa "The Dark Continent" as we were all racists. We've also had anti hunters come on the forum. You can't blame us for being a little suspicious of such a question.

The VP of the USA.....ya, her.................said today that AI can be racist. (And my computer is black!) ............Ya, we have all been "race-baited" on this site. Suspicion is probably justified. Questions like 1. does anybody know where I can beat baby seals to death with a club? or, 2. has anyone been offended by a person of color?, or 3. I only want a Black White Hunter.......etc. You get the idea......people here have been burned. I traveled on Rovos Rail in 2019. There was a Black professional hunter on board as a guest. No one would eat or talk with him. In a train filled with UK libs. And told me Zim was a paradise, And that they loved people of color. They wouldn't even talk to him. They didn't walk the walk. Anyway, the Black PH and I toured the Falls, and drank the wine. And became long term friends. I have seen and experienced the disingenuous Libs. And I am suspicious about any posting that uses Race as an opener. So forgive me for suspicion. ........treat all people as individuals........stay well, hunt often...................FWB
