Big Bore Case Trimmer Help Please

I have the RCBS Trimmer 2 case trimmer and cannot trim my 450-400 brass for anything! First what a pain to get the brass into the jaws...now cannot even get the first one out...second the collet does not cut when inserted into the brass!

I have reached out to Lee to see if they make a trim die for the 450-400 given their system seems to be the easiest to use but have not heard back from them yet.

My question to the group is what is the easiest case trimmer to use for the 450-400 3 inch caliber please and what is needed and where can I order?

I use the Forster for my .450-.400 3&14” brass. It has ample space. I have two Forster trimmers, the Classic and an Original. I mounted them on Nylon blocks, and attach them to the bench with a Redding double C clamp.

When you have time, order a Giraud power trimmer. Here are the calibers it supports, basically almost everything.

Look into the bench rest shooting crowds choices for trimmers, you will be a lot more precise!

Most use Giraud, also as far as I could tell Giraud is the only one that supported really big bores. There is a new company Henderson Precision that has good reviews but the calibers they support are not that extensive, they stop at .338

Recommend the LE Wilson with correct shell holder. Only one I could find that will trim 577 3”.

Excellent suggestions by on on the Forester, and Giraud trimmers. I have to look those up.
For my 450/400, I use a Hornady Cam Lock trimmer. It’s long enough, use a Hornady shell holder. HOWEVER, when placing the cartridge in the trimmer, I loosely tighten the Cam Lock, then center the case on the .410 trim pilots, tighten, then trim.
It’s an extra stop that requires some attention, but was the most economical at the time.
I bought the trimmer and shell holder from Midway.

The cartrige in the trimmer is a 505 gibbs. I use it for large rim cartridges. Works fine for me. You will need pilots and make sure the cutting edge fits your needs.

I got the Frankfort Arsenal given it goes up to a 460 Weatherby caliber and my largest is my 450-400 so it should work. It is powered and does all 3 steps with speed It was $180.

The Fankford Arsonel works but I found I can’t crank it out enough to trim to length for my 450-400 so I have to use trial and error…bummer

I'll chime in with some of the others who recommend the L.E Wilson trimmer. Built to last with high precision with the luxury of trimming after you size it. I have several ways to trim brass but I find myself using this option a lot.

I have used the Hornady lock- n- load trimmer for .510 down to .224. Just made 150 new 45-75 cases out of 50Alaskan brass, the Hornady trimmer ( I use a drill motor attachment) also cuts down 50 Alaskan to Maximum lengths etc.
