Bullthrower338 - Yes, it's a Browning A-Bolt action. I have Browning A-Bolts in 7mm Rem Mag, 338 Win Mag, 375H&H Mag... it seemed appropriate to have a 458 Lott made since Browning doesn't want to offer it.
In preparation for my cape buff hunt in July I've recruited a unwilling participant. He's not a buffalo but he will meet a similar fate. I think the .460 should perform adequately. ;-) plus I need the practice.
Hi my name is Michael and I am an addict. It all started after my 2016 Plains Game hunt in Namibia. Came back to the states with Buffalo and Dangerous Game on the mind. The addiction took hold fast and hard. Bought a CZ 550 Safari in .375H&H, new trigger and worked the action. Shoots great, mounted two different scopes to it and I was off. But as with other addictions, the amount of big bore soon wears off and the .375 H&H wasn't enough. Found a guy that I didn't like, he was a quitter! Might have been due to age but he had kicked his big bore addiction and was selling his Kreighoff Classic in 500/416NE AND a Blaser S2 in .500NE. Well as us addicts will always justify, if one is good, two is great. Plus I wanted my first buffalo to be in classic Africa double rifle style. I bought them both. Ended up taking the 500/416 NE to Zim last year for my buffalo. Awesome. Then I was on to the next fix. Sold the Blaser in a nice deal and rolled the money straight into a custom Blaser R8 Kilombero with a grade 7 stock in .458 LOTT and a matching .300 Win Mag Safari weight barrel. To hell with the college tuition for my four kids. This was two weeks ago. The gun will not get to me until the end of June but Midway USA has already delivered Swift 500gr a-frames, woodleigh 550gr softs and 480 grain hydro-solids, brass, RCBS dies, Lee crimping die, and a new powder H4895 to add to my growing stash. Then I couldn't resist, Eurooptic sent me an email. Not sure how they knew but I think they smelled my addiction. Blaser R8 Professional Safari grade composite stock was only $1,500. Over $3,000 off. Wouldn't want to mess up my wooden stock when I go to Alaska or somewhere wet, would I. Being delivered today. I am sure more barrels will come next, I love the CZ but its days are numbered, with the numerous calibers the R8 comes in I just see me wasting away within that Germany Crack House. I wish you all luck and all I can say is Don't be a Quitter, no one likes a Quitter!
It sounds like you and @Bullthrower338 are drinking out of the same well....he just got a several year head start on you!
Yep. This lone boar was keeping the sounder out of the trap. Normally I wouldn't drop gate on a lone pig....
Damn shame you went and messed up the ribs like that. Hopefully the rest of the sounder will come back now and you can clean up the rest of them. With a little more 460 practice.
im very glad to see this thread is still alive and well with people who share my issue of being addicted to large caliber rifles! personally im still hoping that ill win enough on a lotto ticket one of these days to purchase my current dream rifle... I REALLY NEED an 8 bore paradox gun! ever since Cal let me shoot his 8 bore paradox ive been lusting after one of these puppies but the going price seems to be around $40,000 and that just isn't in the cards right now. -matt
One day you'll have one....unless something else comes up in the meantime, to steal away the gotta-haves! Happens to me all the time!
Gentelman I hope you can welcome me to your group. Today, without having any need whatsoever I have purchased a Win 70 Safari in 416 Rem Mag only because they had one in store. Since I already had a 470NE double and a 375H&H bolt rifle my hunting needs were taken care of but I'm gonna claim there was an obvious void to feel between the calibres and any way the rifle just followed me home...

As another astute poster here told me when I bought that exact rifle, check your cross bolts! Mine were loose. I added a little blue loctite to mine and snugged her up. Congrats on the new boomer! Great rifle!
I did just that - they were nice and tight. I posted my initial impressions after first range visit in another thread. https://www.africahunting.com/threa...ko-brown-bear-in-416.49070/page-3#post-534442
Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I.....myself.....need help. The habit is getting the best of me. Looks like the last post made to this thread was on April 18 2019. Just to make me feel better about myself, how many of you have added to your collection since then? And what have you added? I've since added Sako and Zastava 9.3x62. (2 rifles) Winchester 70 Stainless 375 H&H Winchester 70 Safari Express 458 Win. Ruger No1 Stainless 458 Lott. Sale coming soon! Haha!
