Big 5 hunting Questions

. . . As far as I know, it is not easy to get your trophy imported back into the country, correct? It really is a shame that the tree huggers here have ruined African safaris by somehow getting a species which is NOT endangered in any way onto an endangered species list.

I’m very glad to be 5 for 5 before all the present day hassles, restrictions and such a high level of anti-hunting sentiment. Great memories.

Leopard is next on my wish/bucket list also!

@ reedy0312 would you mind sharing in a new thread your monster of a Mountain Lion hunt that I can see in your avatar along with some pictures. Don't recall seeing one that big… beautiful cat.

Jerome,

Sure I would share, would you like me to just start it as a hunt report, or is there another area on the site I should put it?

Hunt report my friend!

Saw that you posted it, have not had time to read it yet but will take time later today. Thank you so much for sharing your Mountain Lion hunt with all of us! (y)

Big5 I doubt I will ever get all five. You sir have lived the dream!

Thank you sir, I do feel fortunate.

My honest hope is that you and others with the dream of taking all five will successfully realize that dream. I find it very unfortunate that it has become such a restrictive struggle to do so. Misguided political correctness is overwhelming us all in so many areas of life.

Yet in reality the memories of your own hunting successes are already viewed as only a dream by many others. That is why we enjoy hunting and the challenge of pursuing various game species. We enter the field to follow our dreams and build memories.

Good hunting to you and my very best wishes that you will be successful in attaining all of your hunting dreams and build a lifetime of memories in the course of doing so.

Well said Big5. The memory of each hunt stays in my mind as if it were yesterday. I hope that my son and future grand children will carry on where I leave off. It's been my pleasure to have my son with me on two safaris and I hope some to come!

Charlie,

I wouldn't take that bet against you, and certainly not if you get the leopard this summer. That would leave only one.... tough to resist at that point!

I know resisting the rhino will be all I can do! But who knows in a few years things my be sorted out in the Far East and trophy hunting one might not be so damn expensive! Keep your fingers crossed Royal.

Already dropped almost in half, or maybe more so actually from the high? Maybe I will start a betting pool on you and rhino.... over/under of 2018? Does Jerome allow us to gamble here?

I think Rhino will come down. @CAustin you can always do a dart hunt. Not sure if that is your style or not. But it seems to me the prices for a Rhino are dropping and they should continue to drop as their numbers improve. I believe that Rhinos will be our (hunters) greatest success story.

I think Leopard is the hardest one. If I can get that one checked here is a few years, just a tuskless and buff away!!! The key with the big five is to be creative, not many of us can do the full bag safaris due to a combination of money and time. But over time and with careful planning the big 5 should be achievable!

Oh Ok. I was only asking why they would hunt it because I was under the impression that you couldn't take it with you. Now that I know you can, it makes sense. Thanks for the reply. As for Elephant, I know that you cannot import the tusks anymore, correct?
Sir I think you've been fed some mis information. You certainly can import ivory from an ele hunt provided it's from SA or Namibia. Also rhinos are importable. Technically all 5 of the big five are importable. Lion is up in the air at the moment as USFW suspended imports for 2016 but said they will be issuing permits. I feel it will be much like ele's in that the country will have to provide certain data to USFW before they issue the permits. I went in 2015 and took a lion and a buff. Both were imported with no problems.

As for me I have three of the big five and leopard will be 4 of 5!

Oh come on Charlie... You know the price of a white rhino hunt has come down to about the same cost as an importable elephant and even close to a leopard... Next year or the year after you will be dearly tempted!

In fact I predict that you will complete the dangerous seven before you're done ;) I know you got in better shape for that elephant and if you keep it up, you'll get em all :)

So Bob I should put you down for the under?

Oh I was going off of the Ivory ban, stating that no new Ivory could come into the states after the CITES Ban in 1990, but I now see that it is prohibited to SELL Ivory brought into the country after the ban, discouraging it as a profitable enterprise for someone, hence, why there are no longer professional Ivory hunters... just poachers. Thank you for clearing that up!

Action Bob you may know me better than you know!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
