Anyone else shooting doves today?

The boys lost there baseball game so got to come home early.
Took them this afternoon.
Not a bird.
They were flying over the neighbors field
Going east to west.
Not one of more than 100 birds flew north to south over them.
Did see a flock of about 20 bobwhite
And one of about 15 turkeys.

Oh well there all ways next time lol

I just wanted to add this not that anyone cares but it’s informational IMO. So, this same property we hunted last Monday is owned by a guy called Skeeter (nickname) I used to work with. About one hour from here. It’s probably 60 acres with trees on the north and a pond on the south. In 2003, another guy (Stan) I used to work with called me and said I should hunt with him and his son in law on opening day at Skeeter’s. So my 10 yoa son at the time and I went out and got there late because I forgot the directions. Anyway, we heard shooting as we pulled up. Stan and his son in law were banging away at doves in a field south of the trees. They each already had 10-12 birds apiece. I think I ended up with 12 birds and my son had a couple with his .410 single shot. Most were Eurasian doves. So this went on for the next ten years where 12-15 bird limits in a few hours was the norm. Then one year, we saw probably 50-100 dove sitting on a corner house’s barbed wire fence in the fog when we pulled off the highway onto the county road headed towards Skeeters. We told Skeeter it would be great if we could hunt that property. He said we could because it was his son in laws parents property. So we hunted that for two seasons and 15 bird mourning dove limits in an hour was the norm. However, not ONE Eurasian was seen or taken over that property. They weren’t feeding on the wild sunflowers. Very strange IMO. Come to find out, this property had several acres of wild sunflower which the doves were feeding on unbeknownst to us all those years before when they came to Skeeter’s property to drink at his pond and roost in his trees. Anyway, the owner of that property sprayed herbicide on the property to get rid of the goathead stickers and the hunting at Skeeter’s has SUCKED ever since. Oh well, it was great while it lasted. Time to find another dove hunting spot.
I so wish I was a better shot!!! I am a little left eye dominant and have chosen the sustained lead method. I took lessons on a skeet range when I lived in Texas which helped then took some more when I moved back to GA but if i am honest with myself I am a 25% dove shooter. I am thinking of buying the Robert Louis Competion laser set to help me improve. I love dove hunting just wish I was a better shot

My problem with sunflower they never make it to dove season.
The deer eat them
I think we overwhelm the deer, plant around 20 acres. When I try to plant small amounts behind my house the deer get 90% and 100% of any soybeans I plant.

A few years ago well more than a few ( o am getting old)
My dad called me on a Friday telling me they were starting to open being my daughter where she can see them. I said ok
There was not a flower in 3 fields ( they were fallow that year) about 45 acers total
The next night they came back and mowed them down the rest of the way.
That the first year I applied for depdation permits.
There was 72 does and yearling in the fields.

That was back when we only had 2 doe days a year ( and I was working most of them anyway)

I'm seeing this late, and it's archery deer season here now, so for me dove season is over, but I was. I've been using a 16 gauge Belgian fowler made in the 1830s. I had one particularly good day for public land with a muzzleloader a week or so ago.

Cooked up a few last night, kinda hard to see but underneath the baskets are some marinated Sandhill crane hearts with the bacon fat dripping down on them as appetizers!

Perfect tuna, unless in a tournament I prefer the 30-60 pounders, the big ones are good to see and make a good picture but in my opinion they take up too much fishing time. My personal best was #167 in the gulf.

A 160+ lbs tuna is a back breaker for sure

Ummmm...sorry...calling a modesty foul on this deal. We've seen the pics...you're shooting just fine RB.

Best

My wife and were out Sunday I was working my pup so she did most of the shooting. I went back Monday evening to another pond that we saw more using on the day before. The cows came in about 7 but we were done so I picked up the mojos and threw the birds on the bank.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
