I am researching possible outfitter candidates for spring 2026 in Alberta, Canada…specifically in the northern Boreal forest region. I have my reasons for hunting in this area. A remote & authentic tent or cabin experience is what I’m looking for, not a lodge with comforts of home…the more remote the better, fly in, etc. I will also like to do some walleye and pike fishing. A wolf opportunity would be a plus. Finally, I’d like to try spot and stalk for black bear before doing the bait barrel method. This will be for 2-4 hunters in my group. Any recommendations on outfitters, experiences in that region to share or advice would be appreciated.

I think if you are serious about the fishing you might be better to look at Saskatchewan.

I'm not sure about Alberta but in SK, wolves are a fall/winter option not spring. Also, I think it would be challenging to get high success for 4 hunters on stalking bears from the same camp. Curious to see what you find out. Good luck.

I have so far found 2 different outfitters that fit my criteria, they have been emailed, let’s see what happens.

As for spot & stalk, it is offered as an option & I think I’m the only one in my group interested. I’ve read that spot & stalk for black bears is best where grizzlies are present and bait sites are prohibited. I like the idea of spotting from high ground, then stalking verses sitting in a tree for long periods of time. Alberta is a 2 bear per license province, most are charging $500 to $2000 for the 2nd bear.

Wolves are targets of opportunity, sometimes included in the hunt or a small fee. I am a former predator hunter, still have my calling equipment, might be a good opportunity to call one or two or three in. I have a recently customized 243 win built that shoots 77 gr Maximus like a Lazer, it would be cool to take a wolf with it.

Almost all of the outfitters provide fishing opportunities on nearby lakes and rivers, some specializing in trophy fishing.

I am doing this for the experience, to have fun, hunt a new Canadian province which I’ve heard many times over the years is the closest province that is like Texas, a conservative hunting and fishing destination with minimal political opposition.

I will check out “Alberta Bush Adventures”…thank you @RGRCD

Finally, I plan to use this hunt to draw First Blood from my 458 B&M. I have checked firearms regulations, the 458 caliber is legal as long as the load shoots less than 10,000 joules, no problem. I’m debating on using either 250gr or 295gr CEB Raptors, feel free to opine. I know it’s overkill, but it’s a short 19” gun & I need practice with it before I hunt serious DG with it in Africa & Australia.

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
