My wife recently painted a couple of animals from Africa. The elephant is based on a picture of an old single tusker in Hwange taken by Martin Pieters' wife and the buffalo is one one we hunted in Mozambique back in 2010.

These are her first paintings of elephant and buffalo. Any comments or constructive criticism is appreciated. I think they are great, but I am obviously a little biased.

Very cool!! I love them! I have just recently starting purchasing more hunting artwork so I can really appreciate these.

Mike, I think your wife is a gifted artist.

I have dabbled in some art and drawing. They look very good. If she is serious about feedback (which most people aren't altho they say they are) on the ele, the skin pattern also includes vertical cracking. What I see mostly in her painting are the horizontal wrinkles which are different than the vertical skin cracking.

She could also bring the eyelashes a little further back to match the side profile angle of the head. With them all moved forward, that would be a more angling away placement.

I once heard an artist explaining that we are basically creating shadows. We tend to want to use highlights to create detail when it's the shadows that create the detail for the most part. Use the dark mores and the hilights less as a general rule in animal art. What catches your eye first in each of these frames?

Please take these observations in the light than are intended. It's a daily struggle

Those are ingenious work of art, Kudos to her.

She did a great job on these especially considering these are her first time painting them.

The subtleties of animal anatomy and muscle structure are what really bring them to life and that comes out more and more with each attempt as you become more familiar with capturing the nuances of those.

I hope she is very very proud because she certainly should be. Well done.

Really really nice work !

Lovely work! I think you should take her to Africa often to study the animals more.......

Great art.

I feel bad for that elephant- looks like his last remaining tusk is cracked down the middle. I bet it wasn't long before he lost that one too.
