If it don’t hurt you are not doing it right Bob.
@MS 9x56
No pain no gain is a saying invented by people that ain't been in pain to try and make us feel as if we are doing ok.
It's bullshit no pain, happy life.
Pain not happy.

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen , I'm glad I finally got your attention !! I'm gonna build me a 35 W, probably on a commercial FN action from a donor rifle. What I need are the recommendations for barrel length, barrel profile, twist rate etc. Now share your secrets !!
@thoma018
Medium weight .650" muzzle diameter
1:12 twist
21-25 inches long
8# container of CFE223 to make the Whelen shine.

If you’re going to rebarrel a rifle, any 30/06 or 270 action will work. May as well start with a good modern action.
Maybe you could get a 9.3x57 rechambered, but not sure how long those actions are.
@TOBY458
if'n you are using a 270 or 06 as a donor ride it has to be a Whelen other wise it may reject a metric calibre. Something to do with rejection antibodies I got told. A bit like blood groups they have to be the same or you have problems
You need a continental action to avoid rejection.
Just saying you don't have to believe me.

Pain is just your bodies way of telling you that you are still alive. When it quits hurting you should start worrying. :giggle:

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen ASK:
What for you need a 9.3X62 fer.
What y'all need is a 35 Whelen.

It's this Bob; so I could shoot the fer more fer; that's all, simple. Ya see, more far fer is more fer for the stew pot. We can't stretch out the stew pot here with that Vegemite as its hard to come by north of the GULF of AMERICA, so I/we need more far fer !

If'n y'all go to R&M firearms in El Campo you could ask @Mark Biggerstaff for some Vegemite to try and stretch the pot and then have a shot of Bundy rum with him.
That is unless he has eaten all the Vegemite and drunk all the rum

BF thanks for the reply. I've been reloading for 60+ years now and really enjoy it. John is a true gentleman and a pleasure to talk with. I managed to lay in a good supply of RL-15 before the dry spell hit. The Reloader powders are manufactured in Sweden I believe and most of their production is now going to military contracts (Ukraine) and are likely to be scarce for some time. Like I said, try W760. Takes more powder (I've used loads up to 63.0grn) and will have moderate compression at max loads but I never had pressure signs and very good velocities. Big Game just didn't work in my rifle.
Shooting 4 different medium bore rifles the 9.3X62 has become my favorite medium. Do keep in touch. And that's a very good Warthog in that picture.
@Rick HOlbert
I've told you try CFE 223.
Should work well
Think I even sent you load date for itu

Zim, my gunsmith Pete Underwood obtained that safety from that fellow who made them. He bought the last 3 he had in stock and didn't plan on making anymore. I got lucky on that one. He (Pete) has used those other 2 on customers rifles so he doesn't have any left. Sorry or I would have referred him to you.
@Rick HOlbert
If'n that's old Pete he does some dam fine work for a self taught old red neck boy from Georgia.
What I love about Pete is he says it how it is and he has no tolerance for idiots or bullshit.
He I like yourself one find Southern gentleman.

state side, you have to be a reloader as most stores don,t carry it, in five fairly large local sporting stores(all hunting and fishing equipment, not walmart) not one box of factory ammo. i had a custom 98 mauser in 9.3x62 and reloaded for it,with no problems, but i go to gun shows and thats were i bought reloading supplies. i went to the 35 whelen and had no trouble getting 2500 fps in a remington 700 cdl and a ruger #1 with no pressure signs at all with a speer hot-core a 250 gr bullet at 48,900 cup. i shot a cow buffalo with a 9.3x62 ms in africa, and i think a 35 whelen would have done the same thing.
@leslie hetrick
If you can get hold of some 274 gn woodlt or 289 gn Aframe and load them to similar or higher velocity ( I get close to 2,690fos in my Whelen) you have fullt the equal or better than the 9.3.

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?
