Hi all:

With the current ammo situation and my recent acquisition of a couple surplus Mausers, I'm going to start handloading. Does anyone know of where I can find RWS 8x57 brass? If not now, who should restock it? I found Huntington Die Specialists, but they have every classic European caliber available... except 8mm.

https://www.huntingtons.com/store/home.php?cat=275&sort=orderby&sort_direction=0&objects_per_page=50

I'd also not say no to some Lapua brass, but I'm finding nothing at all. I did find some listings for out of stock Lapua Naturalis 8x57 ammo, but at an eyebrow raising $75-85 per twenty rounds.

Worse comes to worse, I have Remington brass, but I'd rather try and find some RWS or Lapua.

Thanks in advance!

-Craig

I load for this cartridge a lot....about my favorite African plains game cartridge. European brass hard to come by now.......consider yourself fortunate to have ANY brass on hand. Remington: a little thick, a little soft.........but does the job............if I find a source, I will let you know...............FWB

The headstamp wont be correct, but 8x57 can be formed from 30-06 which should be available in Lapua

Just to follow up, have you ever done business with German Gun Imports of Mobile, AL? Their website mentions that they sell RWS 8x57 IS brass:

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
