8mm rem mag for PG

I’ve been offered shots up to 275 meters in the Limpopo. In my experience most shots are about 150 meters and those under 100 meters are not that common.

What the heck happened to my first attempt at posting this?

The 375 would be versatile if you were to be offered to shoot DG as an upgrade, or if you stumbled onto a PAC situation. Same bolt throw as the 8mm too.
I never thought about an 8mmRM being an upgrade on a 300 H&H, but I guess that's exactly what it is, and factory loaded higher, to boot.

So I am currently doing my proper preparation for my PG safari in june 2026 which is alot of shooting off sticks. I have narrowed down my rifle choices to 3 and I have been shooting them on a rotational basis. A remington cdl with times trigger and 26" barrel in 7mm rem mag shooting175gr north fork ss (and 160gr tsx since i am just about out of the 175s), a remington bdl with 24" barrel in 8mm rem mag shooting 200gr tsx at 2900 fps (which i wish was faster but the accuracy is there so I suppose it should be ok) and a sako av in 375 h&h shooting both 250gr cx and 275gr cutting edge safari raptors. My hunt is in the limpopo province and the animals are impala, springbok, blesbok, blue wildebeest, zebra and either a bushbuck or gemsbok. I know either of the 3 would be OK but I am having a hard time deciding which one i should lean into the most. I really like the 8mm rem mag but I am not happy with the muzzle velocity.

Take the 8mm and be happy, it will do the job on anything you want. Plus it has more class than the pipsqueak 7mm. What's not to love.

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
