7mm-08 and Africa

Now just to find the 30-06 I want. I believe I want to match my Ruger M77 Hawkeye but in 30-06 and I want wood over my synthetic.

I think it is smart to have the same rifle in different cartridges. Having the same action and feel is wise.

I also agree with walnut over synthetic stocks.

Not that it matters, but, I really like the Federal Terminal Accent in the 308/30-06. I found that I had good accuracy with factory ammo with my rifle and it is a great bullet.

And while we're talking ammo, I only take 40 rounds of ammo per rifle. Others will suggest more and that is fine. I used 5 rounds during sight in check. That left 35 rounds per rifle, and I can't afford to shoot that many animals!

It's really a wonderful adventure to go to Africa and I'm excited for you.

I take twenty rounds per rifle. I did run short during first safari when my new scope went wonky but outfitter had plenty of 30-06 I could buy from him when I switched rifles. Then like a fool I chose to use what was left of my ammo. Big mistake using it in a gun not sighted for it. Almost cost me my first kudu. Fortunately, the bull gave me a second chance and I adjusted.

I shoot a 30-06 Springfield 03A3 with wing style scope relief safety and a 404J 98 Mauser with Model 70 style safety. I've never had trouble adapting to the two different style rifles day to day. Once I borrowed my brother's tang safety Ruger in 300 WM when I anticipated a possible long shot at my last opportunity for a buck several years ago. I made a very long stalk around a couple of peaks and got the drop on him in his bed. All I could see was his head and I made the sixty yard shot quickly offhand having never handled a Ruger before in my life. On two other occasions I have borrowed his totally unfamiliar BAR and made it work. This was the first time firing it (coincidentally this buck was shot within sight of where the above buck was killed).

That’s what I was thinking 30-40 rounds per rifle I know it will be more than enough!

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
