6x42 Fixed Power Scope?

The maximum the human pupil can expand to gather light is 5.5mm
A 6x42 scope gives an exit pupil of 7mm (42÷6=7). This is more than the human eye so better light transmittance.
This is why a variable scope set on 10 power would need a 56 mm objective to be similar.
The old Kahles 8x56 was the scope favourite for roo shooters and fix hunters in the day

Bob, that is an example of sophistry which has unfortunately deceived many a gun writer. A larger exit pupil allows a greater eye box. That is important for hunting and especially for snap shots. You also need to bear in mind that a rifle scope with a useable objective diameter of 50mm or more, might use less than 20mm of that diameter when set to the lowest magnification. None of the optics makers/marketers can hide their design decisions or performance data, these days.
I discovered, decades ago, that I was being deceived, regarding various aspects of sporting optic performance. I started moving back toward fixed power optics, where practical. Have a good week and say hello to Judy for me.

Mate I like to keep things simple
Variable scopes are usually set on five power. If needed and time allows I will crank it up but I would say over 90% of the time they just stay somewhere between 3-5 power.
I usually don't give a lot of credit to a lot of fun writer but do find what they have to say interesting and gets me thinking of doing more research on it.
As long as it works for me it's fine.
Judy is doing well and I'm trying to talk her into retirement next year but that's another story.

I found a 6x42 fixed power scope for sale (Meopta MeoPro) with a German 4 reticle. I am trying to decide how I would use if I bought it and what to mount it on. My rifles range from .223 up to .375 with many (my wife thinks too many) in between.

I am open to suggestions as to why I should or should not buy it.
For me it would be like using a muzzle loader. There is too much good glass out there to go backwards IMO. Our eyes are not getting any better!

Yes, I tend to run my Leupold 1.5-5 at 2 or 3x and my 3-10x Weaver at 5x. Bob, if you persuade Judy to retire ... your list of chores and outings may grow exponentially, with the Clerk of Works a.k.a. the Trip Planner permanently on site! At your own peril, mate.

Looking forward to her retirement.
I just put the jobs on the 5 year plan so no problem. She knows the more she asks me to do it the longer it will take. Ask me once or twice and I will get around to it in my own time.
Bob

That's an interesting concept. do you have a calendar such as doctors have- she asks you to do a job and you look at the calendar and note that there is an opening for that job in May 2028?
@Ray B
I don't have a calendar that goes that far. I may not live that long.
She knows as long as she doesn't keep asking ( unless it's an emergency) it will get done. EVENTUALLY.
