I have recently acquired a Steyr chambered in 6.5x57. I have a descent supply of factory 154 grain H-Mantel hollow point and 127 grain Cone Point RWS ammunition. Are there any members that have used either of these bullets on game? If so, I would like to hear your thoughts on terminal performance.

Would one or both of those factory loadings be suitable for lung shots within 250 meters on deer/antelope in the 135 kg or less category?

I have several types of 6.5mm bullets and suitable powders that will pair well with the excellent RWS brass if my rifle does not group well with the factory RWS ammunition or, those bullets are not up to the task.

Both will work but the H mantel will be better for heavier game. Think of it as a Nosler Partition. The H mantel was very well thought of for shooting Red deer in Scotland

I have an older VihtaVouri and Vectan reloading guide with data for the 6.5x57.
My Norma Vol2 does not list this cartridge. I would think that in the past Norma would have listed this cartridge so if one of you has that data I would appreciate if you would post it. Thanks!

Rws is not making that Hmantel bullet for years ago

In this article he wrote about one of Danish head stalkers in Danish Royal Hunt park and public park also , where the head Skytte used the cartridge with Hmantel to shoot through the years .

Almost 18000 head of various deer species there and other game . The ammo and bullet were standard issue for the Royal Park Service officers

Pleasantly surprised with these numbers.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
