6.5 Creedmoor for hunting

I am local, so we hunt a bit different than what you would find in Africa.

A normal driven springbuck hunt over here is 8-10 guns in the field, we hunt for meat, not trophy’s. The are is flat with zero scrub above knee hight, you have a hunting chair, and if the animals are in your area you must shoot to keep them moving. Otherwise nobody gets any anamals.
Not my favourite type of hunting, but its the only way in that area, and it is a specialised type of hunting with chairs, rifles for long range shots, high power scopes ext. i would put it in the same league as your varmit shooting. So shots can be close, or it can be 400-500 yards.
Its more like live target shooting and “hunting” in the traditional sense. Also you are only in the field one, maybe 2 days, and 50-80 animals is shot in that time, so it is something different, but the only way for a verry big part of the country. I come from limpopo and live in Cape town now, so this is the “normal” type of hunting for us here otherwise you need to travel 700-1200 miles.
Must be interesting to find them after the shot if it’s knee high scrub, 400 yards out once you stand up to start looking. Those reference points have a habit of charging. Dam I find it hard at 80 yards in bush so 400 hats off.

there is nothing, it is basically dessert, you see the animal drop, so you find a reference point on the horizon, get up and walk, if you miss it you just go again, retrieve it, and get back in your seat and wait for the next ones to come past.

Do yourself a favor and buy a 260 REM, 6.5x55, 7x57, or 7mm-08! All better cartridges and the airport staff won’t respond to you as “Ma’am”
I wanted the x55 but it was not available. we are limited to firearms, and it takes almost a year for the whole licensing process before you are allowed to collect the gun after you buy it. i have other weird calibers that i can not find ammo or components for, so I wanted something that is available easily.

luckily i dont need to clear the airport, so that is fine, and I can Honestly just say it is a Mauser 6.5 when we sit around the fire with a beer in hand, i dont need to mention the Creedmoor part.

Is this the interpretation of a spying Creedmoor owner god help the poor sod when the others find out :ROFLMAO:
Cheers for the insight on your springbok hunts sounds interesting.
You off sticks or have a rest set up off the chair?

yes i own one but did not want one,

the chairs swivel 360 degrees, and have rifle rest, most front and back.

Is that standard issue with a Creedmoor?
i am not sure lol
i just needed to have something that ticked a few boxes, and the creed in that configuration did that.
the Ruger precision rifle in 6mm creed is also popular in our hunting group, 243 win, and 270 win makes up the rest, there is one 6.5x55 also.

ai Foxi.
i still hunt with a 8x60s with DWM 196gr amo, and a 8x57, grew up with 6.5x57, and 6.5x58, this is my first rifle that i can wak in and buy ammo, or Cases for that matter exept the 375H&H.
sometimes we need to addapt a little, it took a lot to leave my Nokia 3110 for my first Blackberry, and now I am even using a Iphone, everything doesnt need to be 100 years old.

Please,don't take it too seriously.
But the image cannot be completely dismissed

You will be fine with the Creed and SGC , just why take shots over 350m at all?
I have done a bit of voorsit hunting and shooting further than that just means the animals are not being driven correctly.

I have shot my 6.5x55 for over 23 years now, and for voorsit I use the Sierra Gameking 140gr.
I just cannot load a bad load with this bullet.
That and the 125gr Partition loaded really hot (2900fps) have taken many springbok for me.

i never had the right tools to take long shots, so i mostly just chased them over 300m, but i will see how it goes this year,

470m head shot is the longest in our group own custom chair, 6mm Creed, x30 Scope) so the equipment is up to the task, i only did up to 200 so far with my bos gewere, but this year my setup is better.

Friend of mine is doing work in the Karoo , arranging a late season hunt for us.

my other hunt is a Eastern Cape hunt every year, i enjoy that more, but we have a voorsit jag for work every year, and i had to start to learn this game, only going on my 4th this year, and was not really successful on the previous ones, luckily i get enough meat from the kudu hunt, and are not to desperate on the springbok jag, but there is teams and prises and points system, so it will be nice to be able to do nice shots ext, even if i only want 2 or 3 animals
