So I took my .450 Rigby out to the range this weekend (full report to follow). Anyway, my buddy who has nothing in the safe larger than a .308 got his first taste of a big bore. I'm a really good friend. Enjoy.

Edit that. He does have a .45/70 lever, but at the risk of starting debate it’s just not a true large bore!

Haha...when I was 17 years old (1974) and shooting 500gr Hornady at 1,800 fps out of a 7.25 lbs No 1...off the bench...I sure thought it was a big bore!! :E Omg:

He hurt his finger not his shoulder....that's a good start, he should keep at it!

Such a great cartridge

I made that tiny mistake with the 416 Rigby.
Not holding the rifle tight enough and that trigger guard came back and bit me.

I commend him for keeping that muzzle down range while he tended to his sore paw.

Great stuff.
Can't wait to hear more. I am really interested in the 450 Rigby so please give us your feed back.

He handled that pretty well. My one and only shot of a .450 Rigby was a scoped one. I had my head way back not wanting to get scoped! I had just watched a guy scope himself 3 out of 4 shots from a .416 Rigby.

You saw exactly what I did and if you can slow it down even more, you can see the trigger guard smack his hand.
Proper technique, stance and training really come into play as the caliber goes up and margin for error becomes slim.

A few pointers and he could be shooting that rifle with no problems...if you can get him to pick it up again.

We all need a few more friends like you!(y)

Where's the video of YOU shooting it??? I was expecting a range report with 20 rounds worth a video footage!

It’s coming! I promise! On my friends phone.

I have a Leupold 1.5-5x on my 500 Jeffery with Talley QR rings. I don't let anyone else (including my sons) shoot it with the scope on. I've had a few friends shoot it. I make them dry fire it four or five times and watch them before I give them a round. So far so good :)

So many cartridges, so little time...

Thanks a lot!!! Now you have me looking at that Sako 450 Rigby again! Don't you know I have to save my money for my hunt this year???? Have you no heart? :ROFLMAO:

You want the Sako. You need the Sako ....

Just wait a sec, @tarbe will come to facilitate this....
Hmmm....I don’t know. Sako has not been on my radar.

Currently jonesing for an AHR 450 Rigby at Champlin. Among others!

I do have about 1,000 .458 X-bullets and can facilitate in that regard!

IF YOU DON'T COME UP WITH ANY .458, I WILL TRY AND GET MY KID TO PACK SOME UP FOR YOU BUT PROBABLY WOUDN'T BE TILL THIS WEEKEND AND GO OUT NEXT WEEK.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
