My husband and I are headed to RSA later this year for our first hunting trip abroad. He is taking his gun, potentially his bow, and I am taking my bow (I will shoot his rifle if I'm sick of the bow). I have a few questions regarding the bow, and customs. I've seen people say to do 4457 forms for guns/scopes/binos/etc, but what about my bow? It's a serial numbered item, and it cost a pretty penny, so I assume having a 4457 form might not be a bad idea?

Also am I correct in understanding I can pack clothes around my bow in it's case, just nothing in the gun case but the gun? I have a rolling pelican bow case that is lined with some cheesy faux fur, and straps, so if I can't pack clothes I'm looking at adding foam to it because we all know baggage handlers can tear some stuff up.

Hi @barbells.and.arrows ,

You can add your bow serial number to the 4457 form, but it is not required and really not necessary. There are no special requirements for getting your bow into RSA. You simply pick up your bow case at the oversize luggage office in the Jo'burg airport at the rear of the regular baggage carousels. And yes, you can pack clothes and other items in your bow case. And yes again, they are very rough on bow and gun cases. Pack your bow as securely as you can.

The link below may also be useful to you upon your return to the USA.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
