Hello all I have been working with a 416 Taylor I picked up a few years ago.
My sun in law has decided to use this rifle on a 21 day PG safari with me and a few friends in 2027
He is not interested in shooting DG
Rifle Whithworth Mark x action, Douglass XX 24 inch barrel , Winchester 458 sights added to barrel , barrel has been threaded and has a infinite gen. 4 qd muzzle
break with sound forward sleeve which works wonderfully
weight 12.17 pounds empty
Stock ProMag Archangel Mauser K-98 Precision Elite Stock with 5 round detachable Magazine, 1.5 inch Limb saver recoil pad added , This stock is fully adjustable not pretty but very functional working rifle
Leupold Quick release rings and base 30 mm
3 position safety added
extended bolt handle added
I have added a swfa 3x15 FFP scope but I just received a new monstrum Beast 3x15 SFP scope with locking windage and elevation and zero set with lighted red dot that can be seen in full day light very cheep scope but I can not break it L.O.L. LOOK UP MONSTRUM SCOPES you will not believe the prices on this brand of scope
the scope tracks equal to my 4500.00 scopes
This rifle is a shooter well under 1 MOA with most loads
This report is mainly for the reloader which is what you have to do for the 416 Taylor if you are going to shoot it a lot.
Brass tested
WW 458 WM sized TO 416 Taylor very easy to do can not take to Africa not head stamper correctly
Norma 416 head stamped brass must have for africa
Quality cartridges 416 Taylor head stamped must have for Africa
All data is with Varget reloading powder
Remington large rifle magnum primers I have found to be the best mag primer in today’s market
Reloading dies Redding 2 die set ,RCBS 417 expander die, Lee Factory crimp die , C&H tapper crimp die
Reloading press Lee Ultimate Turret Reloading Press 5 hole turret
Belding And Mull Powder Measure old school powder measure works every time
Bullets tested Cast lead 30 BHN 429.5 grain,404.6 grain
30 BHN gas checked , palmer coated , smokeless bullet lube sized to .417 diamter

The 416 Taylor with modern powders will keep up with all 416 calibers except the 416 Weatherby
and is very pleasant to shoot around 2000 FPS and will do very nice out to 500 yards with lower speed
well over 2000 ft lbs at 300 yards
I only cleaned up flash holes with all brass can get over 10 loads with WW 458 BRASS AND QUAL CART BRASS
