I have only ussd relosder 15 for all my 416 rem mag loads .There is none to be found these days becsuse of the war in urikraine .I face the same problem with my 338-378 weatherby using r25 none to br found .I did buy the only keg of r15 this summer but its in Alaska .I hope both of them return .These to big rounds are keg eaters too use alot of powder.

reloder 15.5 is available. You might search post on here for the difference (doesnt seem like much)

I looked up 15.5 on ammo seek for the below

Just happen to be loading some .416 Rem with Barnes 400’s with Varget this afternoon. It might give up some velocity to RL15, but Varget should easily clear 2300 without any pressure signs in hot weather. Varget is far less temperature sensitive than RL15.

I'll second Varget powder, I've had really good luck using it in the 416 Remington magnum and a 400 grain Swift A-frame. So far I've been lucky enough that the same load works and groups well in all 4 of my 416 Remington mags! It's nice knowing that I can just grab a box of ammo and go hunting or to the range!

I've had good results with H4895 to get comfortable loads of 2300fps with 400 grain bullets. Shoots well in my Blaser R8.

I'm new to the 416 and chose several Hodgdon powders to try with it and the 300/375H&H: Varget, H4831, H4350, H4895. The H4350 and H4831 might also be good for the big Weatherby. Sorry can't share any experience yet; just culled these from all the choices out there. @Green Chile I'm also planning to find a comfortable load with H4895 using the 60% rule and working up, then see how the other powders compare at the same velocity.

I've been using IMR4895 with good results.

Will varget work for 300 gr to 400 gr bullets
.I wanted to try Alliant Power Pro 2000mr it shows 2811 fps with 97.3 grains compressed of this powder thats a smoking fast load for 416 rem mag .I use to buy 5 pound kegs of r15 and r25 at sportsmans warehouse for $90 even in Alaska this summer 5 pounds of r15 was $350 for 5 pounds at three bears big jump .Its funny I went to ace hardware in seward Ak and it said $12.50 for all magnum ammo .I bought 24 boxes of 416 rem mag andnd 30 boxes of 338 win mag what a bargimthat was .I will try varget I think I have a pound to try .I hope these barnes ttsx 350 gr shoot accurate in my rifles .I know a friend who almost got eaten from barnes x bullets in a 416 taylor the petals blew off and just pumched through the bear .I gave him two boxds of woodleigh 410 grain sp no more problems with bears .I got some awesome 426 rem mag nosler brass its the best 416 rem mag brass I have seen so far .I am going to try to shoot some deer and hogs from my ground blind .I dont know about shooting my 416 from a treestand 30 feet up.I am so glad i fell upon these 416s i had two I sold regret thd other Remington guide rifle being sold .
I HOPE this Weatherby Mark V in a mcmillion stock is a shooter was a 257 weatherby now 416 rem mag .I stuck a 3x9 japanese nikon on it those have lasted 2600 shots on my 416 .

I use Varget for my 416 Rem. 4831 works well for Weatherby, but it gives up some velocity to 7828 and H1000.

Yes, Varget and Accurate 2520 give me 2400 fps with no sings of excessive pressure , I have used both in Africa, no problems, I also like H4895 in 416 Rem

I had been shooting imr4064 in mine until it became unavailable 2020-2022 (COVID). I switched to RL15 for a trip in 21 and now back to 4064 due to shortage currently. Varget, 4064,& RL 15 are all very similar in burn rate and performance.

Precision Reloading in Mitchell SD has RL-15 IN STOCK AS OF 9:30 PM 11/29/2025

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
