Gentlemen,

I'm curious about the .404 Jeffery round and was wondering what your thoughts were on which rifles (make, model & caliber) are good candidates for conversion to .404 Jeffery ?

Anyone been down this road and care to share your tips and cautions?

Win Mod 70 in any of the RUM calibers works well. The 404 Jeff is the parent cartridge for the RUM line. Winchesters in RUM are limited, there are lots of Remingtons, but they aren't CRF.

CZ-550 works well. Most people talk with Wayne at American Hunting Rifle.

Mark Bansner makes a custom 404 Jeff for about $7500: https://www.bansnerandcompany.com/bansner-custom-rifles/classic-safari/

Montana Rifle came out with a 404 Jeff, but they may or may not be in business.

This is the story on my project: https://www.africahunting.com/threads/i-joined-the-404-jeffery-club-today.47021/

@375 Ruger Fan..... Well done sir!

I didn't know Winchester made RUM rifles and you got your hands on a super grade....WOW!

M70s in RUM calibers are somewhat like finding hens teeth, but they’re out there. Took me about a year to find one to make my 404J. Check GB and any other website where you can find rifles frequently.

I'm not familiar with the dimensions of the current production Win M70s but any of the New Haven production chambered for magnums can be rebarrelled to 404 with slight modifications. The boltface and extractor are opened up a bit (from .532 to .55") and a new follower. If there is a spacer in the magazine it can be easily removed.

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
