Finally got to shoot my custom built 375 H&H today. All I can say is wow what a tack driver. Got it sighted in with some 300 gr partitions then went to my loads i'm working up for my cape buffalo hunt. Using H 4350 with a 300 GR Swift A Frame. Need to fine tune it but i'm happy with the results. Started with 75 GR on the top left at 2584 fps. Top right is 76 at GR 2627.5 fps. Bottom left is 77 GR at 2670.8 fps. Bottom right is 78 GR at 2693.7 fps.

Very nice, groups holding well over a fairly wide charge range. I think I'd stick with that 77gr load. The 78gr load showed a bit less increase in velocity than the other 1gr increases. Makes me think it's about to open up a bit after that. And the 77gr load gives you great velocity.

I'm with you on the 77 gr load I'm gonna load some more and go back to 100 yards and start playing

Nice groups. I’m an old curmudgeon, I’d go with the 75gr load. You really don’t need more velocity than that, & it would lessen worries about high pressure in the heat.
Good luck.

I fully agree that 75gr should be your load. A-frames 300's really work best at that velocity and no worries with pressure ever even if 41C in the Delta

H4350 is one of the temp insensitive powders from Hodgson, I wouldn't worry too much about pressure.

You needn't chase velocity when loading for buffalo. With softs, velocity does not get you better penetration... just more recoil. In fact, Kevin Robertson recommends down loading the 375 H&H to around 2400 fps to ensure that there are no passthroughs when shooting buffalo. He also says slower seems to kill better.

I know many say that temperature doesn't matter but loads safe and easy in Harare at 34 degrees have a stiff bolt opening in zambezi Valley at 45 degrees C. So I am in the 75 gr camp. I think in terms of penetration, once you are through the vitals, everything else is unnecessary - recoil, bullet failure, over pressure

If you’re interested in another option, you might try StaBall 6.5. I’m using it in my 375 with the 300 grain A-Frame and getting 2641 FPS average and great accuracy.

Quite the rifle and amazing accuracy as well. Congratulations.

What is that on the end of the barrel? Possibly a brake? Is it removable?

yep its a muzzle break that he designed, and yes it screws off
Does it maintain the same accuracy without the brake? Hopefully you have a matching thread protector as well.

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.
