35 Whelen Ruger Hawkeye african

Not the Ruger African 35 Whelen, but my Ruger No.1 35 Whelen puts cow elk on the ground. 180gr.Barnes TTSX using power pro varmint (no longer being made). about 190 yards away at the shot.

Bob, both my Whelens have been the same. The only bullets they would/wont through to same POI are Barnes. Some other monometals group well and same POI.

I hope we get some CFE223 in Aust as I want to use it in my Whelen.
@Rule 303
Try some of Cameron's 220 gn Atomic 29s mate. They are a mono and give outstanding accuracy and in game results.
You could even use them at warp speed in your 358 RUM.

A pussy cat? Similar recoil to your other favorite, the .243 i guess? Sorry had to poke you a little. [emoji38]. I’d say at least a large bobcat or small mountain lion.

“For every action there is an EQUAL, and opposite reaction” Newton’s laws of motion.

No such thing as free energy with guns shooting 250 grain pills approaching 3000 fps.

You do live that Whelen!
@Lee M
NEVER SHOT A 243 AND NEVER WILL , so can't compare the recoil.
True there's no free lunch when it comes to recoil but my Whelen fits me like a custom rifle so is relatively gentle on the recoil. I have shot light 308s that are far worse

Sadly Ruger does not think that left handed people would buy anything other than the African in a 375 Ruger.
They also seem to think us lefties would not buy a guide gun in anything other than 375 Ruger.
@Bandera
A mate has a Ruger scout left hand that has been rebarreled to 338 federal. It's an awesome little piece of kit

I reload for mine, but the Buffalo Bore “Supercharged” with 225 Barnes TSX looks interesting
@wyattcm95
Try loading it with CFE223 it will do everything the buffalo bore will and be a lot cheaper to do.
A 225gn at upto 2,950 out of the Whelen ain't to be sneezed at with over 4,200fpe of muzzle energy.

I will when I get through the stack of Woodleigh's I have in 358. Cam said he could do a limited run of 240 grainers when I spoke to him about it several years ago.

I have to admit I was a bit incredulous about CFE223 powder in the .35 Whelen, but you folks here convinced me to try it. I already had good loads with 225 Accubond's and TSX's with 4064 and Varget, but felt the velocity was not quite what it could be. This is 225gr Accubonds at an average 2,750 fps, and I must say I'm good right here. My Ruger African M-77 Hawkeye in .35 Whelen doesn't weigh all that much, very shootable and very accurate. I will be taking this to S.A. next year for sure!

I wish i had bought the one of 18 made Winchester Super Grade 358 STA that i had in my hands in Neveda.It was an awesome rifle also and i think the only rifle ever factory chambered for the 358 STA .I have a Ruger Africsn Stock that i want to put on my Ruger stainless 77 Hawkeye.

Wow, Super Grade M-70 in .358 STA? That really would be something.

In case anyone is interested I do have one of these rifles for sale. I had RJ Renner do his “African” treatment on it. Really slim stock, Rigby style forend, Prince of Wales style grip, etc. Shoots very well, I just need to gather some money up.

It will be a while before I can start working with my .35 Whelen. I hope it's at least this good, minus the fouling. Whenever I read about the Lipsey's 9.3x62, I cry a bit since I didn't know that happened until recently. I think I'd have happily traded my CZ-550 away for a Ruger.
I was able to snag one of the new Ruger Hawkeye Alaskans in 9.3x62. I still wish that I had one of the Africans, but the long CZ-500 and short and handy Alaskan is a nice pair to have.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
